Re: 1. series odometer gaining mileage too fast

Unfortunately those instruments made by Jaeger are becoming quite unreliable once it reaches certain age. There could be problem with speed sensor on gearbox (broken cables) but more likely whole instrument cluster (which is almost fully digital inside) needs to be replaced or repaired. Unfortunatel...

Re: 12V Camshaft removal/replacement

I did, but missed that, sorry :) I have never seen tappet so much destroyed. Camshaft is probably also gone. Double check that the tappet seat is without any damage.

Re: 12V Camshaft removal/replacement

To remove exhaust tappets you dont have to do anything with camshaft. Just turn engine clockwise till camshaft is not pushing at tappet you want to remove. Then take exhaust valve rocker with some suitable pliers you have and move it to open the valve. Than you can remove pushrod and tappet. It is a...

Re: 12V Camshaft removal/replacement

No, you dont have to remove cam hub. It is all just about pull it down a bit, because there is a conical surface and its often stuck together. That is what that puller is for  I recommend you to remove all three exhaust tappets and pushrods, then rotate engine clockwise until all three inlet v...

Re: 12V Camshaft removal/replacement

Removing camshafts on 12V engine is pretty simple task. You dont even have to remove timing belt. But to do this on car you need to have special tool. Look at this page: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/164-168-1991-1995/15049-changing-164-cam-pulley-oil-rings-oil-seals.html That guy uses special pul...

Re: 164 Q4 ABS problem (warning light on)

Did you bleed the system properly? You have to put some weight in boot to bleed rear axle. Also you have to adjust that proportional valve otherwise too much brake force will go to rear axle.

Re: 164 Q4 ABS problem (warning light on)

Original ABS 2B is utter rubbish, its not even digital. It didn't work properly 30 years ago and it doesn't work properly now. I am driving my 12V QV with no ABS at all (no ABS light, but wheels locked up) and considering upgrade. But whole brake system is not adequate. I've got calipers, servo, cyl...

Re: LWR headlights

It depends also on legal requirements and there are many differences across whole Europe. For example here in Czech Republic (former Czechoslovakia) new cars has to have LWR since 1987 or so. Some imported cars have exception but it must be approved. Local Skoda Favorit has LWR fitted as standard. O...

Re: LWR headlights

It is original. Just try to understand, that it was an optional extra which could be selected. From 10/1992 it became standard together with Bosch projectors

Re: LWR headlights

It would probably be different on other markets. In Italy it was that way, but in my country - Czech Republic we did not have 164 at all. Only reimports from Poland, Germany or France so I can't really tell. Our first 164, it was V6 TB, in 1992 was reimported from France by Czech dealer.

Re: LWR headlights

In Europe every 164 came with Elma lamps until facelift, which was in October 1992. Since then every european 164 had new Bosch projector lamp. Headlamp level adjustment was an optional extra for Elma lamps (in some european states it was standard because it was required by law). For facelifted cars...

Re: Alfa 164 TS to 3.0 V6 12V QV project

To be honest with you it doesn't look that bad actually. Camshaft caps are made from alloy and that scratches are pretty common, but fine. Con rod bearings also looks fine. Crankshaft main bearings not so fine, but not seized. Take out that crankshaft and measure it (download the cardisc for more in...
