Re: Long time road going 164 Q4 1994 project

So it is time to get started on fixing a lot of things on my Q4, but mainly water getting in to the oil. A lot of other stuff also needs to be done, but I took it for a spin around the garage, before starting disassembly. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/n2lmjikdsp9vijv/AAAfcCF1trvwuqDHF3JdcW5pa?dl=0 I ha...

Re: 3x 164 in Australia

Time is always lacking - so next step is to build a garage... ;) The engine is a such only serviced in mine, but with water coming in to the oil and the timing belt to be replaced, some work is going to be done, starting this weekend! I will update this thread based on the progress http://www.alfaro...

Re: 24V cambelt tensioner pulley bearing question

I will soon start work on my Q4 and will be replacing cambelt and tensioner as well, so interested in this. If I find anything interesting, I will let you know, but so far I have found the same as you have.

Re: 164 Q4 steering rods (WARNING!)

I am almost certain that the Q4 ones are longer than the 'regular' ones, so probably not an option!

Maybe the unoriginal longer ones requires to be threaded deeper...

Re: 164 Q4 steering rods (WARNING!)

I think it was for a Toyota, and as long as the thread is correct for the part in your photo I am quite sure it will work.

I can see that my photos are not available in this thread and I don't have access to the photos I made right now, but will try and find them later.

Re: Trouble diagnostics for 4WD light

There might be another system used by workshops, which can handle the Q4 system, but I have never seen it, so the Marelli tester is your best option. I have experienced on some 164's it can be very difficult to get connection with the ECU's, so maybe he should also try to connect to the Motronic uni...

Re: Clutch change Q4

You should contact Wilco, he has done the work previously without taking the engine out. According to the workshop I asked many years ago, it is quoted to take 11 hours....! To my knowledge the clutch is very sturdy. I had it replaced around 270.000km and then again at some point after 400.000km, bu...

Re: 1996 Alfa 164 Cloverleaf (I'm back...)

I believe the 24v QV and Q4 were built alongside one another throughout the same period, with the 24v Qv launched in 1993 and the Q4 following shortly after. I'm certain the Q4 didn't 'replace' the Qv in terms of production, as otherwise the Qv would have been in production for less than a year. Th...

Yes, and they look great! :)

I do not have my Q4 ready, so brought the 4C & 8.32 for the event. Here is a photo.

It does look good and with all the spares it looks like you have made a good purchase 8) Any idea why the car is not starting? You write that it is from 1996, how can that be? Yeah it seems like I have, for othe first time  I haven't tried to start the car yet. It has been in dry storage for 8...

Re: Alfa 164 - converting to Selespeed?

An interesting thought - but I don't recall having read anywhere about putting it into a 164.

I don't know details about the selespeed system, but I guess the 2 main details would be space for it and how it is connected to the engine ECU/electronics. The last part is probably not going to be easy...

As I remember it differs between versions, main fuse on mine was under the hood on the firewall, near the coolant reservoir, just stuck on there. Be aware of this, it may be difficult to make.

But it definitely is something worth checking, as that would restrict flow.

Re: Hydraulic pressure, value too low

Your signature contains 2 Q4's :) Is the other one running? If so, you can put the tester on that and see the pressure level.

From memory the 4WD system goes up to app. 100 bar when fully functional.

All the values should be in the manual, which I assume you have downloaded?
