Re: Replacement for shock absorber upper mount

+1, I was just going to write about this. I need to replace the top shock absorber mounts on my Q4 as well.

For Q4, we are basically talking about parts (for complete overhaul):

60511574 (x2)
60511577 (x2)
60511566 right (x1)
60511567 left (x1)

Re: 2017 June 24 meet in Arese (30th anniversary of 164)

It was fantastic. I was lucky to be able to understand just a little Italian, but enough to understand what they were talking about. Without any Italian, you were screwed. I am kind of hoping for some official report, as I think they were recording the entire session. The talks were very interesting...

Re: 164 Q4 no-start condition, no fuel

The beast lives again!

I've installed the fuel pump lucky mentioned below, no issues at all. I made lots of pictures and will report in detail later on. I will validate the results on a road trip to Arese tomorrow, nothing as exciting as 1200 km trip right after a major repair.

Re: 164 Q4 fuel pump

Thanks for the information guys. I wouldn't want to damage the connectors. I still don't understand how they remain in place with pressure inside the line without any groove, maybe the pressure holds the fitting secure? Or the top cover actually secures the elbow fittings from shooting up? Who knows...

Re: 164 Q4 fuel pump

Thanks for the information lucky. I will get some 8 mm fuel line and clamps, I guess everyone doing the job in the future should be prepared with extra submersible hose and clamps as well. I will try to use rubber hose though. No problem with removing the fuel pump hose at the top of the assembly? T...

Re: 164 Q4 fuel pump

So guys after shopping half the night for fuel pumps, I have finally decided to do what lucky did above and have ordered new 0 580 314 064 pump. It is the exact same size and has the protruded "collar" in the same location. 3 bars pressure as well. Outlet looks different and connector as well, but c...

Re: Euro Projector Headlights Wanted

For the FL / Super models, not sure about only the glass covers being different. There is a metal plate in the lens assembly which creates the uneven light pattern of the LHD cars (light farther on the right side). I believe this metal plate would have to be reversed for the RHD cars, otherwise it w...

To be honest Q4 is also not included in this catalog as user of 0 580 453 980 which is the original one. :D I will buy one of the available ones. We'll see how it goes. I'll report back. EDIT: pump listed here: https://www.alfa-service.com/product_info.php/info/p12828_OE--60589833-FUEL-PUMP-164-V6-2...

Re: 164 Q4 no-start condition, no fuel

So the fuel pump connector gets ca. 12 V for 1-2 seconds after key is turned to "run", and it gets ca. 10-11 V when cranking. Fuel pump is completely silent (after plugging the connector back of course). Connector itself checked, connection in good order. Will apply 12 V from battery to the pump dir...

Re: 164 Q4 no-start condition, no fuel

Intermittent no fuel problem came back today! I hear relay clicking for a few seconds after ignition turned on, but fuel pump is silent. The car failed to start earlier today, I tried several times. Then after ca. 30 minutes it started normally on the first attempt. In the evening it does not ...

Re: Q4 Viscomatic "bad piston movement" while bleeding

So believe it or not, I got some advice from alfisty here (thanks!) to basically run the car good and let the oil warm up etc., then repeat the diagnostics. And guess what? At lest this time I was lucky! The bleeding procedure went through and completed successfully. No more errors and no more Visco...

Re: 164 Q4 ABS problem (warning light on)

I did apply 12v from ca. 10 A power supply to the pump motor directly and it did only just tick slightly, but my power source was dimming. I assume pump motor needs more amps and is powered directly from the battery, and not through the 10 A ABS fuse. Still does not explain the code 19 "faulty solen...

Oh, ok, so the positive terminal is visible once the tray for the electronic module is removed. I will try it. Re: 164 Q4 ABS problem (warning light on)

Hmm, I haven't tried to apply 12v to the motor directly. It's worth checking, although the error suggests something else. How exactly do I do that? Where are the connectors directly for the pump motor?

Re: 164 Q4 ABS problem (warning light on)

Time for an update. Not much luck. Current status is as follows. - ABS throws error code 19 (paperclip diagnosis), or "Sicherheitsrelais" (F/L Tester M30A module in German), which most probably is the same as "solenoid valve relay" error code as per the non-Q4 fault code table (code 19 from Q4 ABS m...

Re: Q4 Viscomatic "bad piston movement" while bleeding

Your piston stroke signal error seems to be similar to what I'm getting. As far as I see, this error is only mentioned in the active diagnosis / oil bleeding section of the MA12A manual, and not in the defects section. Mine does not register as an error code and the light does not go on, it only sho...

What it looks like in mine is what is on the 2nd picture: three big connectors side by side (G166, G170, G149) and it sure looks like G124 should be in there somewhere... Will have another look at the spaghetti wiring. The other photos show G125 which should be the ABS fuse holder together with G124...

Some news: if you are lazy, you can get all of the copper seals for the power steering and all Viscomatic lines via your Alfa dealer. They are still available. I've had 2 copper washers worth maybe 50 cents in total shipped from the Alfa warehouse in Italy. :D I'll measure once I have a bit of spare...

Re: hello members help please??? identify my 164

Hi Richard, there was no "Lusso" for the 164, your model is a 1995 "Super" 2.0 TS. Main difference externally are the painted, slightly rounded bumpers with a chrome stripe, compared to the other non-Super models. Have a look at Autotrader, AutoScout24 or any of those for an idea about the price. By...

Q4 Viscomatic "bad piston movement" while bleeding

I've had some success with my Viscomatic system during the weekend. I was able to plut in the F/L Tester with the correct module and identify the code causing my 4x4 light to come on. It was a "faulty" brake switch. I have measured the continuity of all wires and voltage registered by the Viscomatic...

Re: 164 Q4 ABS problem (warning light on)

So I had a lot of time to run some tests and also I've used the Fiat/Lancia Tester to diagnose the ABS. I'll report my findings below. First and foremost, errors read through the F/L Tester do not match errors from the flashing light diagnosis, as identified through the pre-facelift error code table...

Re: relay

Wow, that's expensive... I couldn't see any visual defects in mine either, but the turn signals began working only when I pressed on the relay. Just re-flow the solder joints at the base of the relay to be sure. It is also possible that your hazards button is defective. Don't forget to check ...
