Auxiliary belt tensioner damper for Q4
Hi all
I need some urgent help finding the auxiliary belt tensioner damper for my Q4
The original one has come apart, ( will try to fix, but it looks like it is missing a small metal ring for the piston part)
I have tried many websites and sellers but they all refund my money and say that the part is not available
Can anyone suggest where I can get one from? A second hand part is also OK
Thanks for your help
Daryl

I've successfully purchased from Mister-Auto, albeit in Germany. You can try the UK shop, they do have a bunch of Q4 service parts available at all times: http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/drive-b ... _g310.html
You can also try eBay, there are a number of tensioners available. Just search for "dayco apv2221" or "alfa romeo 60561380" (I'd suggest to double-check the part number for your actual car with ePER).
Good luck!

Hi Mikefoxtrot
I tried mister Auto along with a couple of other suppliers on EBay and despite saying they had stock and taking payment, they all subsequently refunded my money with different excuses
So I am a bit stuck at the moment
Best regards

That's good to know, I won't bother ordering mine via these places then! I've had this problem with various 164 parts on ebay...why have an active listing if you don't have the actual stock...very annoying.Alfamuppet wrote: I tried mister Auto along with a couple of other suppliers on EBay and despite saying they had stock and taking payment, they all subsequently refunded my money with different excuses

Anyhow. I recently bought a couple of bits from these guys and the service was good, looks as though they have the auxiliary dampers in stock:

Bertelsbeck also seem to have them available:

Hope that helps.

Re: Auxiliary belt tensioner damper for Q4
Thanks Hadyn
I'll give them a try
I managed to get the old tensioner back together, first filling the resivior with a little Fork oil. I did it using a fiat X1/9 valve spring compressor, and offering the damper up to the tensioner and it seems to have worked for now.
As I know the small piston inside the damper is missing its metal O ring I will replace it as the damping effect is not as good as it should be. I had spoken to many people about this, and putting it back together does appear to be common !!
Anyway thanks again and she is now up and running after one pretty major surgery
Cheers Daryl

Re: Auxiliary belt tensioner damper for Q4
Great - thanks for the info, looks identical and used in a lot of cars and appears lower cost than the stock part. Will try this, although the old one is behaving great and has done 600km this weekend with no issues164 TD wrote:You can use a damper of a bmw 2.5 tds

Top one is for BMW 2.5 TDS, lower one my old one.
The BMW one has a slightly longer stroke but works fine, the BMW one costs 40 euro's; the Alfa one 240!

Re: Auxiliary belt tensioner damper for Q4
Great news.
I suggest to add this to the alternative parts section.

Re: Auxiliary belt tensioner damper for Q4
Now I am in the same problem, trying to source the auxiliary belt tensioner. I see one problem: the original part seems to have the holes at both ends of the same diameter, while the BMW part you've used (INA 533 0007 10) has one hole of a larger diameter.
It is unclear to me weather it would fit directly or not.
Have a look here for a comparison: http://www.ebay.pl/itm/Riemenspanner-Sc ... cMiOsr5Lag" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't know about the dimensions, but here is a link to analogous parts and one found on ebay

Re: Auxiliary belt tensioner damper for Q4
Thanks Alfan, I saw the other one on eBay.
But look at all the photos in this thread. The photo in the first post, both sleeves/holes at both ends of the damper are of the bigger diameter. Then, there is the BMW part from INA, which has one tighter and the other one bigger, and finally the original one from Dayco on the eBay listing has two tight holes.
Here I'm lost.

Re: Auxiliary belt tensioner damper for Q4
Hi Alfa Whiz
I fitted the BMW part almost one year ago now and had no issues with the hole diameter at all. It fitted fine and is still going well - I notice that in the photo's the metal insert is missing on one of the bushes which makes the hole diameter look bigger
Both bushes (black plastic part) have a metal insert to reduce the diameter to accommodate the bolts
Cheers Daryl

Thanks for the tip Daryl, I've fitted the exact same part last week and it indeed fits fine out of the box.
Cheers

Great news.
How is your Q4 running now in general?

Re: Auxiliary belt tensioner damper for Q4
She was running great after a head gasket replacement, which I had to do, together with new injectors and coils.
The job made a world of a difference though, and I'm safe to say that the top of the engine is in mint condition now and hopefully will stay that way.
I said "was", as last week another problem struck, this time with fuel supply (no fuel coming to the fuel rail), I'll be investigating this one when I find a bit of spare time, hopefully still this week.
