24V belt change without tools

I was going to change the timing belt on my QV 24V a couple of years ago but somehow the project got postponed. The plan was to buy the tools from Totallyalfa but they are not selling them anymore. The dies are available elsewhere but not the weighted arm tool with adapters for the timing and auxiliary belts. There must be a way to tension the belt properly without the tool. Or is someone willing to sell their tool or rent it?

No need for the arm and weight, if the pin fits in the damper, the tension is ok (Turn the engine a few times by hand to recheck it.

I bought a set of calipers at Aliexpress for the Twinspark 147, the might sell them there as well for the 24V.

Otherwise make timingmarks yourself with a white marker.

What a shame that Totallyalfa does not offer the tools any more.

I've been sort of waiting for a good moment to get a full set for a couple of years now, but did not expect this to be discontinued.

That said, I know from my trusted Alfa workshop that they use more contemporary tensioning tools from the newer models (156, 166 V6) on the 164's 24V with success. They know the old weighted tensioning tool and describe it as "archaic", seems it has been long superseded by the newer replacement.

I found the timingtools still for sale on AliExpress.

Search for "Alfa v6 timing tools" and you will see 2 sets for sale for around 22 euro.

The TDC timingmark you can see on the pulley on the crankshaft on the picture, it has to line up with the ridge on the side of the engine.
