Viscomatic FLT read out to diagnose 4x4 error light
Viscomatic FLT read out to diagnose 4x4 error light
So I finally hooked up the FLT to my Viscomatic ECU to diagnose my 4x4 error light.
FLT:
“Signal of steering angle:
Caused by :
Signal too weak”
On FLT, steering angle sensor reads constant “-128” with steering wheel straight or turned in any direction.

One step further
I think you can both read out voltage and percentage of the steering angle. I assume you have been able to erase the code and find if it comes back after a restart.
You can read some more here:

Re: Viscomatic FLT read out to diagnose 4x4 error light
Hooked up the FLT again after locating the steering angle sensor. The plastic piece is a little brittle but in one solid piece, so I didn’t want to remove it. I did turn it however, but the values on the FLT remain the same. After removing the entire sensor for further inspection, one of the wires (yellow) is a bit frayed. Could this be the culprit? Where would I source a new sensor?
Re: Viscomatic FLT read out to diagnose 4x4 error light
So it seems to be an electrical problem. I don't know if they are easy to find, but you should look up the part number for it. The same part was used for some Lancias.
You chould try and measure, if you have continuity through the wires, maybe it can be fixed.

Re: Viscomatic FLT read out to diagnose 4x4 error light
The part number for the steering angle sensor is 60568856.
The sensor has three cables. One for ground, one for constant 5V and one for signal.

Do you know what each wire should measure?Alfan wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 10:52 amSo it seems to be an electrical problem. I don't know if they are easy to find, but you should look up the part number for it. The same part was used for some Lancias.

Re: Viscomatic FLT read out to diagnose 4x4 error light
Continuity is just measuring the resistance in the wire, so if connection is not broken, you should get ~0 resistance. It is also worth cross checking the wires, so they don't touch each other (metal to metal). Your mechanic should be able to help with this.Cavallino wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 10:19 pmDo you know what each wire should measure?Alfan wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 10:52 amSo it seems to be an electrical problem. If you disconnect the unit from the steering rack, you can turn the part that goes into the plastic part. You should be able to measure a voltage change, if it works.

Re: Viscomatic FLT read out to diagnose 4x4 error light
Yes, my mechanic did turn it, 360 degrees also to "reset" it. I'm almost positive I need a new sensor.Alfan wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 8:39 amContinuity is just measuring the resistance in the wire, so if connection is not broken, you should get ~0 resistance. I can't seem to find one ANYWHERE. I am hoping Ed can help me.

It might be worth to see, if the old unit can be repaired. I don't recall having heard of anyone trying, though...

Re: Viscomatic FLT read out to diagnose 4x4 error light
yes, I saw that site. they still have it listed, but unfortunately if you look closely in italian it says "non disponibile" and in english "no longer available" or "out of stock". also, I've been on alfabb for years, but the largest number of Q4-specific knowledge and owners are definitely on this site.Alfan wrote: ↑Sat Feb 29, 2020 6:59 pmNot cheap...

I just received one from Ed, he is the best. will update everyone once installed.
