Hi all, I have the drivetrain back out of the Q4. I have not driven the much since replacing the disk and throw out bearing, but left the original pressure plate in place, and did not re-surface the flywheel. I wanted to spend the extra effort this time.
Has anyone resurfaced a Q4 flywheel before and can provide input into the process? It is stepped. Should I machine both the surface and the outer step down the same amount? The disk contact surface is only maybe 0.25mm above the unmachined surface, and I probably need to remove about that much material to get rid of the surface abnormalities. The machine shop suggested machining the plate down between the disk surface and the outer step to match the original profile. Any thoughts here?
Secondly- the pressure plate. I am unable to find these anywhere, even as a complete kit. Can anyone provide some pointers? My pressure plate surface has micro cracking, so I would prefer to replace it if at all possible.
The clutch engagement was fine before I removed the engine, so I could probably do nothing and be ok. I don't really feel like taking this engine out again though!
Thanks,
Karl
Q4 flywheel resurfacing & pressure plate sourcing
Re: Q4 flywheel resurfacing & pressure plate sourcing
I resurfaced a couple of Q4 flywheels last summer, and I machined both surfaces equally. It is the logical thing to do.
Unfortunately I can't give any input on where to find a new pressure plate. I have a bunch of used ones laying around, some in great condition. If I remember correctly, one is driven around 500 km. If you are having a difficult time finding a new one, send me a pm.

Re: Q4 flywheel resurfacing & pressure plate sourcing
All, I was able to have the flywheel resurfaced and the clutch pressure plate rebuilt at Kentucky Clutch. I would imagine other reputable clutch shops could do this as well.
