As already seen in the previous pictures; in the end I decided to have the paint done professionally in the off-hours of a bodyshop. I just could not get it to the finish consistently as I wanted.

The last part was very difficult. Could not get the engine to run. Turned out that both fuel pump and injectors got stuck and partially damaged even. I suspect the ethanol in the gasoline that can attract water when stored for a long time.

Many small items are still not up to my standards. Striving (too) much for perfection. I had long been in doubt about the wheels but I decided in the end to go for refurbished original wheels. Bit of work still to do on them.

I stripped the original paint/laquer of with a chemical paint stripper. Took me 2 rounds and a 3rd on some sticky remains. After that I sanded the surface smooth. The original finish was from when the wheels were machined so it had some kind of circle pattern in it. I placed the wheel on a selfmade setup so that I could rotate it while holding a not too fine sandpaper in the same place. That created the circle pattern. Just before that I painted the holes black. After sanding in the circles I applied clear coat.
The wheels were straight and the little curb side damage I just sanded away. Also there was some aluminium oxidation that I could partially sand away.

Overall the wheel look really nice. If you look really close you can see that they are not perfect but this is enough.

At the Zandvoort race track in a classic car event where I was the only one with a 164. It gathered a crowd every now and then.

I went to Zandvoort again; this time for the Spettacolo Sportivo Alfa Romeo. I am volunteer there every year for technical support. That also means be there early on Saturday (sometimes even on Fridays), have little sleep Saturday night and leave late Sunday night. Sounds bad and it is fantastic :D

Somehow the rainy early hours of Saturday created a light colour that fits very nice the colour and lines of my 164. So much more elegant than the Giulietta in front of it.

Over the weekend I spotted a little over 10 164's which was a lot but still made it one of the rarer cars on the event. If you exclude race cars it was probable only the 8C, Matta and TZ that were in smaller numbers. This year I also did not see any Rio or Arna. A Junior Zagato, a SZ/RZ or a 4C each had at least 2 or 3 times more cars as representation. So... maybe next year more 164's?

In between my activities I had every now and then time for some pictures and visiting the stands with Alfa parts. I had one success; the caps in the wheels.

Great photos and nice to see the 164 being well represented :)

For the first time ever, we are having a similar event (though on a smaller scale...) in the north, at Ring Knutstorp in the south in Sweden. I am part of the organizing committee and I hope to see many Alfa Romeos there, including 164s.
