Ok, so it's official: I finally found my daily driver dream car - a 3.0L 12V automatic! So the diesel project will have to be stopped, as there is no point in it. Most of the spare parts will be used for keeping the V6 alive and the diesel engine and it's parts will be up for sale. A bit of a sad ending for the project, but then again, I now have what I always wanted and bought it by a complete coincidence, so I can't complain

Nice replacement; although the VM diesel was a very powerful engine for its era I think there is more joy to be had from a V6! (mind the timing belt issues though...). Automatic is a surprisingly good match for this car/engine in my (biased) opinion.
