well, I thought I was insane, to put an 166 engine in 164 :D you beat me :D
I still wouldn't do that.

maybe you should do the same, its a bit more reliable than 164 24v.

I dont have the time to finish my project off, but its all done, except cooling.

dude, what ever you do, don't paint v6 navy blue. just don't  :?

Don't worry! Busso V6 has to be either as it is or red. Amen to that! :)

Still an interesting project, even though it has changed character a bit :)

Ok, so it's official: I finally found my daily driver dream car - a 3.0L 12V automatic! So the diesel project will have to be stopped, as there is no point in it. Most of the spare parts will be used for keeping the V6 alive and the diesel engine and it's parts will be up for sale. A bit of a sad ending for the project, but then again, I now have what I always wanted and bought it by a complete coincidence, so I can't complain :)

Nice replacement; although the VM diesel was a very powerful engine for its era I think there is more joy to be had from a V6! (mind the timing belt issues though...). Automatic is a surprisingly good match for this car/engine in my (biased) opinion.

Congratulations on the 'daily driver dream car' :D

Even though you stopped this project, it contains good documentation for others to use!

Thank you.
It was one of the reasons of this topic - to help out others as there is not much info on the diesel versions.
I'll soon start a new topic on the V6 repairs as well :)
