Two months of happy driving in a car, which runs without major glitches and faults.
Then it happened.

A car coming from the left hit the Q4.
I saw it coming, banged in 2nd gear and tried to outrun him.
I nearly did, but the other driver (female) did what beginners do. Instead of pulling away from me, she pulled away from the direction where I was coming from. She pursued me :x
And hit me smack into the left rear wheel.

Her car:

The Q4:
.... - slightly bent wheel
.... - two small dents in the body

The dents I could live with :D
But the wheel was a problem.
The impact was on the top of the rim.

I know, the rim looks awful. But I tempered with the colours to make the impact point visible.
(Allright, I agree, the rims have to be redone in the near future).

Anyway, the wheel was bent so much, that the inner edge of the tire was rubbing against the shock absorber - the car had to be towed home.

Bummer! I know how frustrating it is when all is well and out of nowhere, someone gets in the way :(

At least the outer damage doesn't seem so bad and this is a standard 164 rim, so they should not be too difficult to find. Question is how it looks behind the wheel?

I hope it is an easy fix, so you can enjoy the Q4 on the road again :)

OMG!! you are so lucky (really) that could have been alot worse.. Hope that the suspension stood up to the beating and that nothing is bent.

One new super-rim should be possible to find at a scrapyard or from a fellow alfista with a parts car. The dent's don't look to bad.

I will never dare to drive my Q4 on public roads again...

In my posting below I used a wrong technical term. I corrected it and now it reads:
"The tire was rubbing against the shock absorber" as shown here:

Well, Daniel, you are right - that was/is the crucial point.

I took the wheel off and saw, that the shock absorber showed only the marks, where the tire had rubbed off the rust/paint. This means that the suspension received two impulses (red arrows)

I removed the shock absorber and dismanteld it. My measurements did not show any bends and the piston rod moves easyly.

Next came the item, whose name in English I do not know. The German manual calls it "Radrahmen", the French "Montan Roue".
Anyway, it is #9 on the next picture.

This is a solid piece of iron and if it is bend, I cannot measure it for lack of an original (drawing). It looks ok.

Where are the bends or deviations, which make the camber angle too large?
One has to bear in mind that the rear suspension of the Q4 is nearly as complex as the front suspension. It lacks the steering but it has the Viscomatic.

I had to make a decision: In order to find out what is wrong, I had to make the suspension "driveable" again - back on the road for testing 8).

The best way to do this was to change the camber angle - which is not adjustable in the Q4.

I had to make it adjustable

Helli, has your Q4 been resprayed once (it looks like filler that comes through where the paint came off). Still a nasty bump; look at that Ford Fiasco  .

Hope you can get everything sorted again; I guess from your accident description that she was at fault and you get reimbursement for the damage?

I am afraid that exactly number 9 is damaged. Did you check numbers 4 and 7 and a halfshaft? Because the camber obvious is not good, but what about toe-in?

Having a look at that Ford, the damage "underneath" of your Q4 must be way more severe.

Insurance/legal wise, who's fault was this?

Alfa East, you could be right, but I do not really know. All the papers and docs which I have for the car do not indicate any accident. But in 16 years of use by another owner it does not need an accident to repair some paint, does it? :D

The fault was mine - at least legally. I made a left-turn, after a stop-sign.The Ford came too fast (but who can prove it :x ) and even the police conceded, that my view was obscured by a high hedge (the hedge was cut low two days later  ). I declined to fight the issue.

The damage below was very little, as I will report in my next progress report
