Probably v-belt is shorter than original one... And you have to replace it. :)

You mean the whole reinstallment of the aircon? That, yes. The belts (GATES) both for timing as well as the multibelt are reasonably priced.

Ah, you mean costs in terms of sweat and tears. That's probably a different story, yes. I'm afraid I can't speak of experience.

After putting in a new Air Conditioning Compressor the project is not finished yet.
The next major issue is the renovation of the "underside" of the car.
The following pictures show some of the "defects"

Basically all is in order but many parts are so rusty, that something has to be done.
Most important parts are of course the hydraulic lines which have to be scraped/brushed and eventually replaced.

What is a good-looking and well-protecting coating, once the rust has been removed?

On the first pícture it looks like the stabilizer is very close to the left side wheel?

Mine has looked like yours and still do in some places. I will ask what the garage used for coating the rear of the car.

After solving and repairing the high temperatur problem of the cooling fluid I took the Q4 out for a 300 km trip into the mountains to the South of us.
The purpose was to take her permanently through the six gears of the Getrag and to see, whether everything was stable.
Of course also some "promotional" pictures were asked for :)

I am proud to state, that everything went right and there was not the smallest malfunction.
It's great fun to drive her over challenging roads through a beautiful countryside.

But the project is not finished yet.
As mentioned before the underside of the car needs some adorning and loving care... Image

That must have been a great ride - combining the beautiful scenery with the fact that the work you put into the car has been worth it :D

I was driving round the Alps earlier in August in a Mini Convertible and even though it's a fun car, I missed the Alfa - especially the sound!

Servus Helli,

I am wondering that you use still the old number plates of the former owner? Or are you registered in Hassia, far from your home in Bavaria?

Hallo Niels!

Well I guess it was when I introduced myself a year ago, that I explained, how I got the Q4.
As the lawyers say in German, I am "Besitzer" (holder?) but not "Eigentümer" (proprietor).
The car belongs to a very good friend from way back, who collects oldtimer and rebuilds them.
Although he fell in love with the 164, presently he has neither space nor time for it.
He gave it to me to take care, use it and repair/refurbish it as appropriate.
And now I fell in love with it.

That's why the car is not registered in Bavaria.

Some threads back, Arjen called it a "sheep in a wolfskin".

My project has been sleeping a bit during the last weeks, but it is not dead yet.
The car is running smooth and agile, I use it for occasional excursions into the beautiful Bavarian countryside,

Image

But I still have not found the source of the "half revolution" sparking noise, which I have reported before.
The clutch pedal is squeaking, a nerve racking noise, for which I will try to find its location.

In February next year I have to undergo the "TÜV" examination, which I am sure to pass, but I will have to clean (or replace) rusty hydraulic pipes.

I know, that I will still need a lot of your kind help, which I hope to be able to pay back eventually.

the squeaking clutch is kinda standard. you have to grease ball and socket joint on the master clutch cylinder.

Thanks wilco.
I have not touched the Clutch yet, which leads - I am afraid - to some questions

I did look for the origin of the squeaking noise and thought, that it comes from the spring unit (10, 11, 14) which is attached to the clutch pedal. I suspected also the plastic spacer/bearings (9/12). I used a mechanical "stethoscope" for this search.
Image

But I am not sure about this. Noise and vibrations are passing along strange paths.

Can you identify in the figures below, where the "ball and socket joint" of the master clutch cylinder is located?
What do I have to dismantle to be able to grease them?

Thanks for your help
