Great to see how you can still catch it going sideways at the roundabout! Impressive.

Knock Knock....
- Who's there?
- Rod !
- Rod who?
- Rod Knock !
- Gaaah !!!
Didn't get to drive much this winter...
Got an bearing knock before Christmas and I put away the car in the garage and "forgot" about it for a while..
Tech thread: http://alfaromeo164register.com/viewtop ... f=2&t=1041" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Started fixing it 2 weeks ago by taking down the subframe, extracting the engine+ transmission and then putting the subframe, etc back
(so I could roll it out of the garage) and after that I got a bit lazy.
Got my thumb out today and removed the transmission and sump from the engine (with Skype support from Wilco, since they didn't want to part so easy)
Here's some pics.
Starting (again...)

Out (lot of svearing and 4 days ineffective work, could be done in 2 or less if you are experienced and in the mood)

Big lump

On the bench

Split

Sump of

Expensive bling...

Clutch question
How thick should the clutch disc on the Q4 be?
Mine measures 8,2mm wish is more than a new standard 3.0 12v and 3.0 12v QV (S) clutch discs according the the clutch workshop manual.

Is it better then new?

Driveshaft seal question ?
Beside all the bearings I'm also replacing the crank shaft seals front and back.
Should I replace the driveshaft seals in the diff and gearbox input shaft seal while I have my d*ck out so to speak.... ?
Where can I buy them?
Heard that parts for the Getrag-boxes is hard to come by...

Re: 164 Q4 -95 : Knock Knock...
if they where not leaking and you didn't damage them, you don't have to replace the driveshaft seals.
i damaged mine and ended up pressing a nissan seal into the original seal... Didn't had the time to order..

Re: 164 Q4 -95 : Knock Knock...
some say you have to replace that gearbox clutchside seal aswell. i did it and ended up with total leakage which resulted i could do the whole job again.
Thnk twice or make 100% sure you have the right one. the inside of the new one i had was slightly bigger which resultet in a big loss.

See here about buying a clutch viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1135" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I will add pictures of it in my photo album later today.
So you managed to separate the gearbox from the engine. I plan to replace the gearbox and clutch in my Q4, when the workshop has time... This will be with the engine in the car, so more difficult. Any experience on this would be welcome

Re: Clutch question
The Valeo clutch discs for 164 3.0 L, S and Q are all 9mm thick according to their US parts catalogue (European didn't have thickness data)Maffia_Alfista wrote:How thick should the clutch disc on the Q4 be?

So their Q4 clutch disc was probably 9mm to. Since mine Q4 clutch from Valeo is 8.2mm now it seams like a reasonable assumption.
Should I change it or just the release bearing? It felt great before the engine failure. No slip.
