Hi,
is it someone who knows where to find the hatch for the radio?

My is broken and would like to replace with a good one.

Looking forward to hear from you!

Kind regards

Hi Mark,

do you still have one? For the Super/FL versions? I would be interested in buying it.

What is broken?

You won't get a new flap most probably and even if you do, it can be easily damaged by leaking silicone oil from the faulty mechanism or scratched during installation.

I have some experience with those hatches as I've already fixed and reassembled 3 of them. You can remove the sticky goo caused by leaking silicone oil with gentle use of acetone (nail varnish remover). You can have a better than factory finish with matte black vinyl wrap foil on top of the flap (don't use PlastiDip, tried it, it's too vulnerable to scratches). You can recondition the round friction brake (thing that slows the mechanism down and leaks) with a very thick silicone oil and a new slightly thicker o-ring.

Once I get mine installed, I will post a complete guide. Feel free to ask in the meantime.

I read on the Dutch forum that Wilco did one using a 3D printer. Maybe he can share some more info here?

Update on this from my side. I am able to recondition the mechanism which slows down the flap. I renew the rotary damper with new fluid and better seals, so that it's not leaking anymore (thicker o-ring and casing is then glued together after putting new oil inside). The action of the damper is better than new and it's not leaking anymore.

By the way, I did buy a NOS slow-down mechanism some time ago, brand new, sealed, and it was leaking from new just by sitting in the warehouse for 25 years, so it's somewhat disappointing and not recommended. Now I can fully recondition the whole unit myself.

After some trial and error I've picked the right rubber based paint to have the optimal finish (I'm not using foil wrap anymore, I have much better results with the right rubberized paint instead), and it has a very nice grain structure as well.

Below some photos with my results, both the radio door and the ashtray cover are re-done, as my ashtray cover was scratched. I hope the result speaks for itself.
