jerky accelerator

Post by johnatrye » Mon Feb 08, 2010 10:52 pm

My 91 164Q has a very jerky accelerator just on and off small throttle openings. It makes it hard to drive smoothly in the lower gears. The cable has been lubricated and the accelerator action feels smooth when the car is tuned off. However when running is starts to feel a little 'sticky'
- does any one know how to cure this?
- is it something to do with the vacuum in the inlet tract making the throttle jerky - or is it electronics?

Did you already check the integrity of you idleswitch(S6) on the throttlebody?

When the throttle is fully closed, the ECU sends a signal to the idleactuator (S29) to open and bypass some air to run idle, when the throttle opens, the idleactuator closes.

With the throttle closed, S6 should have a connection between 2 and 18 and infinity between 3 and 18.
As the throttle opens 2 and 18 and 3 and 18 should all have infinity.
With the throttle full open, 3 and 18 should be connected and 2 and 18 should read infinity.

Thanks for the input - I will have this checked out. Someone else has suggested I also check the engine mounts.
