How to improve audio system trick.

Post by 164Q4 » Sat Nov 03, 2012 10:44 am

I come up with an idea to make a better audio in my black 164Q4.
Assumption : stock look using factory speakers location.
Equipment
Headunit: Alpine 7918R + Alpine 5957 cd shuffle + Alpine ERE G180 13-band equalizer
Front speakers: Midbass Hertz HV 165L + Tweeters Hertz HT 25
Rear speakers: Woofers Hertz ECX 690
Amplifier: STEG 75.6 mx
Speakers and amplifier "made in Italy" ;).
For the first I suggest to soundproof front doors.

Enlarge tweeters holes a bit and fit new speakers in it.

6x9 speaker mounted on mdf distances.

1.5 din Alpine set.

I will try to fit it into a factory hole with working flap of course :)
Steg 75x6 (every speaker has its own channel and every channel has a crossover)
Image
Front midbas cut 50Hz-1.8kHz
Tweeters cut 1.8kHz--
Rear work as woofers and are cutted --200Hz.
Effect is amazing. Pure analog sound with deep quick bass and clear vocal. Without any alarming noises.
I will paste some more after finishing all the job.

The weakest shackle in the chain remains the antenna/antenna amplifier for radio reception. It remains terrible.

Mostly listen to CD's.

Nice work though....

Looks cool! Why did you mount the rear 6x9s on an mdf spacer?
What was the stuff that you used for sound deadening on the front doors. I would like to copy that trick.

Mine has Infinity 300w 6x9s fitted into parcel shelf in original holes, Blaupunkt head unit and bog standard front door speakers. Front speakers sound passable at best, rears are great though. When you combine the two they don't sound half bad though. Nowhere near as good as your system I should think though.

Mounting rear speakers on mds stiffen rear shelf. Give better stability for speak and improve sound quality. Eliminate unwanted noises too.

This is special 2mm thick soundproff mate. You can buy it in every car audio store.

Thanks for interest.

I think I'll have to invest in some of that. My parcel shelf has an annoying buzz which bugs the hell out of me. With some of that soundproofing it may get rid of the buzz and make my sound system better too.

Looks good! Is the head unit and equalizer one unit or separate? They seem to fit perfectly in the 164 slot.

They are separate. I had to make few things to fit them right.

Flap works too and that was a big problem...

Cheers

Wow. That must have been a hell of a job making them both fit in that small space! Especially so that the flap would still fit. Look great.
