Thanks guys :)
Again small steps further, cleaning of oil pan + pump:
cisteni_vany.jpg
olejova_pumpa.jpg
Also bushings for engine upper mount finaly arrived so I have complete new engine mounting prepared:
nove_ulozeni_motoru.jpg
And I have ordered new camshaft for front (left) head - I have already one for rear (right) head which still can be bought for "peanuts", whereas the one for front head is kind of tricky. Nonetheless I have decided to go with the new part (from Ajusa) and not send one of mines (have 3 of them already, all worn out ) for refurbishment. So I'm curious how it will hold.

Some new stuff just arrived - new intake valves, valve seals, knock sensor, some piping...

nove_saci_ventily.jpg
And did some cleaning (not 100% but still better then it was :D)...

The heads are finally back - resurfaced, re-grinded valve seats, new bronze valve guides, cleaned old exhaust valves and leaped in, leaped in new intake valves, pressure test done.
rear_head_repaired.jpg
front_head_repaired.jpg
Besides that arrived new middle exhaust silencer and some pipes. Also I have replaced heating readiator (since it was easily accessible with engine out of the car )
And this is how looks the cylinder no. 3 from the old engine - the one with which all started:
praskla_3.jpg
But also I have found out that the "new" engine has already had some troubles, this is how looks cylinder no. 5:
valec_6_new_hit1.jpg
However I'm not to keen to put back cylinder like that - so I will put there cylinder no.5 from the old engine - I have checked and they're the same category, plus I made some measurements and difference in weight of set of cylinder + conrod + bearing + conrod bolts between new and old engine is 1g, which is OK I guess
Still, the conrod bearings look like that:
c1_bearing.jpg
c2_bearing.jpg
So I will put in new conrod bearings Glyco STD. Regarding crankshaft bearings I'm not sure about their status yet (have to take them out, have it on my to-do list), but most likely I will replace them as well - I just did not decided yet if I will use OEM (about which I'm not sure which of the 3 variants to use :D) or the Glyco STD as well...

Indeed they do :D
Small progress again - except for oil pan the bottom is done - all cleaned and put in new Glyco STD crankshaft and conrod bearings, new simerings and linner's seals.
Unfortunately I just don't have such nice pictures and it's not done as thoroughly as in case of Killergame's 164

Hehe not as clean as mine indeed, but I put into cleaning of all engine parts like 1/2 of the hole engine rebuild time

Still, great job! :D

BTW clean engine block edge where gasket sits very very good! And also top edge of cylinders where gasket sits. For cylinders I used very soft metal brush in drill machine. And for engine block inox spirale for dishes. Top stuff for cleaning aluminum!

One more thing! Buy new bolts for water pump. They are standard size M6 I think. I think they are 2 long, 2 short and 8 middle if I remember correct. :) Just take old samples of all 3 bolts sizes with you to shop.

Yep, I bought those :)
And finaly I have some update - I was delayed by several things (by move to another place starting and by some guy in Alfa stock not been able to send correct pads (the one for adjusting intake valve clearance - I needed the smallest one - 1,700mm, it was possible to order them in the dealership but twice they have sent the one with haight of 2,250mm  I ended up modifying the one I had with different size, but it caused me few weeks...), but today finaly the engine was put into the car:
motor_pre_in.jpg
motor_in.jpg
So now it remains to plug some cables and pipes, put in coolers, attach some parts of body kit and exhaust... and then pray that it will start :D

Great work!

Doh, don't even mention me valve shims! I am loosing my mind over them!!! :x New tappets are supper thick and valve seats grinded so I need like super thin shims (around 1.30-1.45). Sent them to work 2 times already and still not good. Machine shop maybe even fucked them up, so could be I will need to find 6 new and grind them again. 2 month already delay because of this

Yeah, that's the thing - I also had my valve seats grinded and after that on one valve I could not fit in tolerance (after recommendation I went for a 0.400mm clearance on intakes) with the 1.700mm shims. I had one done to 1.600mm but it was still not good and I did not want to go with to thin shims (more over in the future I would again have problem with adjusting it and had to have another shims done, etc.) so I went the "dirty way" and had that valve shortened a bit so I can use 1.900mm shims.

Hm. One thing. Did you also shorten shim edges? If not, you need to do that asap, otherwise, you are going to destroy engine. When you shorten stem top of the valve, shim seats lower and hits valve locks! It seats on locks, not valve stem top! I tried that and saw the problem. You can btw make shims thin max 1 mm. That is advised by Jim K. (V6 performance book).

I did not shorten the shim edges, but! the one I used had quite short edges anyway and between them and locks were roughly 3-5mm of space so I don't believe it could move that much... I shortened it by approximately 0,4mm (before I had clearance 0,25mm with 1,68mm shim, no I have 0,4mm with 1,9mm shim (if I remember correctly)).
Also this shorten of the valve was advised to me by a guy who has done lots of Alfa engines (including some racing one) and he did not mentioned anything about shim edges...

Well, maybe 2.0 V6 TB has different valve locks, because of different valves. Because stupid 3.0 V6 12V has like 0.1mm maybe from shim lower edge to valve locks :x

Seems so - bellow is the picture of one soare valve I have with locks correctly in place and shim on the top. As you can see there's gal between lock and shim (1mm - I know, I have exagerated a bit with those 3-5mm :D but still if valve is shortened by 0.4mm (definetely not more then that) there is still enouh space left for normal operation).

Hehe yes totally different! Well lucky you, that you had an easy fix. 3.0 12V is just horrible to do this :x

It's alive! After 1 year, 2 months and 13 days it has finally returned (so far unoficially as it has to pass MOT) on roads :)
102_7928.JPG
Driven around 80km and it's working... fingers crossed. Just have to sort out some bug with speedometer/RPM dial - http://alfaromeo164register.com/viewtop ... 454#p13454" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And after that pass that MOT :D
