2nd Alfa - 164QV from Taiwan

Post by mkelf » Wed Jul 19, 2017 6:21 am

Hi Everyone,

To have a 164 is to have one of hero car of mine. Alfa Romeo once very popular in Taiwan and the dealer doing great, but now we only have trader which import Alfa Romeo new model by order.

The era of 164 in Taiwan is back to 1990s when I was just a school boy under 10-year-old. It was a police station on mid of my way to school. Police car is always some kind of hero of little boy. I always remember the day I found that they change the police car in to a super stunning beauty, and that is my first time to know the name Alfa Romeo.

My first car is a 1998 Alfa 156 1.8 T.Spark Lusso. Although the reason I decide to have this one is based on the easy maintenance and low tax payment, but I couldn’t help to fall in love with it. As a result, easy maintenance is only in my dream, it took me 1 and half year, piece by piece to make it in good condition.

My 156 is now can use as a daily car, and I drove it for more than one thousand kilometers in 5 days, from beach side to high mountain that is 3000 meters above sea level.

I have zero problem during my 156 trip, and no maintenance required after the trip since the condition is so good. It is that time, I feel that I could have another Alfa for fun. And it is that time, a pretty red QV appears, my first hero car appears.

With full maintenance history and as a garage car, this QV is not as smooth as my 156 but it will need way less restore period as my 156. Plus, this QV even got new original electronic shock absorber in 2 year ago, fantastic!

The 164/168 in Taiwan is now very rare, but several of 164/168 owner is now trying to link together and have more public activities. Hope I can share our activity later.

Oh, and I will have more photo on my 164QV later. Now I got only several from my phone.

Welcome indeed! Was Taiwan also a country where they used the 168-badge for a while?

Cool photos and I love the baby blue color of the 156. I think it goes very well with Italian cars (not just Alfas, I even "build" a Ferrari FF in that color on their web configurator! If your curious; try the GTC Lusso in Azurro California although that is not the same as mkelf's 156).

My 156 was original have Alfa color code 405A.The number of this color is super rare.
Somehow after several years, rain water will leave dirty mark on it and it is obtrusive on such light color body.
I re-paint the car with color code LR5D which originally on Gallardo.

And yes, there are 168 in Taiwan. We usually call pre-facelift as 164, and facelift model as 168. But there are some overlap, my facelift QV was registered as 164.

Haha,

just edit previous common about the 168.

We usually call pre-facelift as 164, and facelift model as 168.
But my 1993 QV registered as 164.

And YES, that's the color.

That police 164 is absolutely fantastic! Thanks for posting those rare photos. :D

And your red QV is stunning as well, wheels, paint, especially the new shocks. Very happy that you've joined our little forum.

Do you have any idea how did the previous owner get new electronic shocks?

One of Alfa Workshop in Taiwan is main service center when we still have Alfa Romeo dealer.
They still have many ways to import genuine parts after former dealer stop their service.
The workshop now provide service independently.

Welcome and congrats to your beauties! It has to be such a pleasure to see you red 164 on a parking lot where other cars will be most likely the same (silver sedans/vans/etc.) as it's so rare :) (although I'm starting to have that feeling here as well recently, even with my "boring" blue color :D)
