Welcome to the site, Obenaus. Nice car park do you have a 164 in black and white and in 12v and 24v. Gorgeous spider for the summer months. When you compare the 12V and 24V what are your conclusions?

Hello Alfa East, thanks for your compliments.
I cannot fully agree to what is issued many times, namely that the 24V would feel less powerful at low revs than 12V does. The 24V feels completely different. While a 12V has a bit of attitude of a cruiser 24V roars on from start and makes clear that it is a sports engine. 24V lust even more for revs. A significant difference is that 24V pushes stronger at high speed: while 12V does not rush so much if 200km/h is passed 24V pushs on. Finally in a 24V you're not able to listen to a late Ferrari in traffics alongside to you anymore: the sound you hear is yours

@Nils: Interesting comparison. The 12V was never sold in Thailand so I can't compare on that, but on the engine note, I fully agree. There is nothing wrong with a Ferrari sound, but Alfa's 3.0L 24v is so unique; nothing can compare.

Indeed, I don't want to refer to the sound quality but to the noisiness. A 12V is as decent that you're able to listen even to a late Ferrari that is beside you in traffics. But a 24V has this sound like power is brewing under the bonnet. And its as noisy that you don't realize the sound of others anymore.

Yes, that is true. I notice that I never switch on the stereo in the 164 (or my 19 year old daughter is with me in the car

). I rather listen to the engine noise.

Hi Nils
I see your 24v is a 1998 car which must make it one of the last to be sold in Germany. Mine was registered end of September 1997 and I haven't heard of a younger one in UK.

Hi Chris,
Your statement is not to the point: My 24V is a 1994 car whereas my 12V is a 1997 which was registered 3/1998 as one of the last in Germany. Late 24V as yours are quite seldom I think, aren't they?

Some 164 were still on sale *new* in 2000, a friend of mine said, here in Italy! There was a factory phase-out, starting late 1998, the cars were almost all in genoa blue, with blue velour interiors, wooden steering wheel and gear knob, AM/FM radio with CD, and electric seats. Most of them were Twin Spark and TD models. Few V6 Turbos and very, very little % of 3.0 24V since the heavy taxes that were here in Italy for cars over 2,0 L.
Obenhaus: wunderschoens Autos, sehr gut gemacht!

This is (after the Recaro memory) the best leather interior you may want. Looks great Nils. How many km's on the clock?

Maybe in general, but not this set in particular - it has alot of signs of use.

About 160k now. With the car came the service check book alongside that shows the full service history
The car rides well, the suspension seems to be o.k. and the breaks do a good job. So it's to check if there are any engine matters and if the bodywork underneath is fine.

Lovely color in combo with those tan leather seats. On the braking; I don't know if it is specific to my car and the fact that it is not used daily, but I am a bit disappointed with the braking in the first few kms after not having used the car for a while. It can be so bad that just getting the car to stop the natural "creeping " of the auto gearbox (without pushing gas pedal) requires a hefty foot and longer braking distance than to be expected. When you are just backing out of the driveway or garage you may not notice it, bu then you drive for a while and you are up to a speed of 30-40 km and if you need to brake unexpectedly I scared myself stiff a couple of times and actually caused one small accident myself.

Cool plate of course. The parking spots remind me of the one my parents had in a Maastricht apartment building; much too small and really narrow. You had to be so careful when opening the doors and be a contortion acrobat in order get out. It seems you have at least one spot at the edge with only your own Spider as your neighbour. That should protect against nicks and scratches.

No, that was a bit more east
My first thought was that you recognised the Chrysler 300 at the over-next parking which could be deemed as "Lancia Pre-Thema"

Thanks. Was a lucky momentum. It's caused by the fact that the car was imported and first registered here. Thus a new car document has to be issued what is delegated to someone superior. He explained that such short numbers would be reservered for motorcycles in general but for an more than 15year old Alfa it would be O.K
