quadrifoglioquattro from Italy

Post by quadrifoglioquattro » Tue Mar 01, 2011 5:42 pm

Hi everybody!
My name is Victor and i'm from nothern Italy, near Modena.
Since I was very young I was in love with Alfa's, and 164 was one of my favorite. Finally last year I've found a good 164 and i've bought it. It's a Q4 from 1993 in Rosso Alfa with black interior. Now i'm searching some parts to make it perfect.
It's a pleasure to see that the 164 have so many fans all over the world; here in Italy is still an undervalued model from Alfisti.

Ciao from Italy

Welcome Victor!

That is a great Q4 you have there. Really early Q4 ('93), one of the first I recon.
Nice to have you here.

Welcome aboard Victor!!

Good to have a Q4 from italy and as it looks like in mint condition.

With your Q4 you are in good hands here; we have all the available data there is about the Q4 and a whole lot of experience.

In Ed, Alfist you will find a partsupplier for your Q4; he has quite a few parted out.

Are you sure your Q4 is from 1993? For all other countries, the Q4 was only made from 1994 on. Ofcourse there must be some first models for testing and introduction. Can you supply us with a (discrete) VIN number via email or PB?

Regards,

I think I kind of found an answer to my question about the year yours was build. In the January/ February 1994 issue of the magazine "Il Quadrifoglio" is a large coverarticle on the 164 Q4 with Allessandre Nannini. I see long shadows and trees without leaves, taken on the Varano circuit. So it must be late autumn, early winter. The Q4's are numbered all the way up till 20 so in the winter of 1993/1994, Alfa must at least have had 20 Q4's ready for the road. These must have been made in 1993. They are carrying MI and Roma licenceplates; with a bit of luck, your car is in this article!!

That is a good looking Q4 :)

I saw a Q4 with the same colour at the Centenario in Milano last year. It had 'AK' as the first letters on the licence plate, do you know which area/city that relates to?

welcome Victor,

You're at the right place with the Q4, the car looks realy nice. Like Arjen already mentioned, it could be one of the Q4 from the magazine.

Hi 164 TD, my 164 was first registered in March 1994 and the first owner on the documents is "Fiat Auto S.p.a, sede di Milano" but my mechanic told me that the car is from 1993. However I will send to you the VIN number, so you can confirm or not this. Sadly, for this reason, the car can't be on the "Quadrifoglio" magazine of January/February 1994. The previous owner bought the car in 1996 from an Alfa Romeo dealer in Milano. He told me that the car was first an "exhibition car" and then was registered and used by Fiat headquarters (in Milano) until 1996. The car has lived in Milano from new until 2010!

This type of plates were used in Italy until March/June of 1994, so it's quite rare to find a Q4 with licenceplates like MI or Roma.

Thank you Alfan! I was also present at the Centenario in Milano last year (with my Gtv 916 3.2) and I helped the owner of that Q4 because, in the parking of the Museo in Arese, his 164 had electrical problems! The letters "AK" doesn't relates to any area or city because, as i wrote in the other post, in 1994 the licence plates changed from the style (for example) "MI 123456" (where the first letters are related to a city), to the style "AA 123 AA" (where the letters have no links with the geographic area). I think that this type of plates it's horrible.
A little story about the "Centenario" : the last day of the event, after the tour in tangenziale a Milano, I went to see my Q4 and after a week, I was back in Milano to pick it up! :)

I think your car must have been part of this article!!

These cars where made in pre-production; in one colour; proteo rosso.

After using these cars for a photoshoot, after racing them on Varano track, you cannot sell them "as new" to customers. You can only use them for promotional use or let your staff drive them.Putting 20 of them on the road with your own people, gives you the opportunity to testdrive the car "broadband" to improve your product. That must be the reason your car was owned by the Fiat group.

Thanks for the info on the plate. I passed the Q4 in the queue to the parking area at Rho and later I saw that he had parked almost next to me. I didn't see him, but as my italian is not that good, we would probably just have agreed that they are 'Bella Macchine' :D

That I would call a happy ending to the Centenario, buying a Q4

I have had the thought that my Q4 could have been part of this article (it's Proteo Rosso), as it was originally the Fiat DK press car, but according to eper it is produced in the start of May 1994, so I guess not.

Welcome to the site! Great to have more Italian members. And a Q4 at that! I like the photo on the "QUADRIFOGLIO"-magazine with the group of Q4s; what a rare sight.

Exactly. Yes, it was repainted 6 months before the trip to Italy. You are right that it is not exactly Proteo Rosso, but close enough for me. And parts of it has been repainted since because of other people driving in to it... Fortunately, they did a good paint job, so it's not visible.

By the way, the 33 next to mine has done more than 400.000km - though on the second engine - and it is in immaculate condition.

Hi guys,
finally i've found the right radio for my Q4 (see pic).
Does anyone else got this factory original clarion radio? I'm a little bit scared about mounting it, this radio took me 3 years to find!

That looks very nice! Never saw that either and can imagine that you are afraid of mounting it (you're worried about theft, I presume?). On the one hand, almost everybody uses different music "carriers" now, but a rare part can still invite thieves.
