-= A/C DISPLAY REPAIR=-
Hello,
I offer the pixel/segment failure repair which are very common on the Alfa 164 Super A/C display's.
A BRAND NEW cable will be installed, so NO reheating of the existing, poor contact cable!
Additional precautions will be done to prevent display failure at the most.
The display will again fully work for many years to come!
The price is 100 euro, EXCL shipping (depends on country).
For an additional cost of 10 euro I will replace the 3 bulbs for Highbright green LED's which generate
considerably less heat and are longer lasting.
I can normally send your display back within one day from arrival.
Please refer to my topic on the Dutch alfa164register.nl site:
http://www.alfa164register.nl/viewtopic ... 52&start=0
If you have a faulty display and are interested in this offer, please send me a PM for more information.
Regards... Davy

It was agreed that I send him 2 but want only 1 back - 2 years ago no one else was able to do something with defunct displayes. And I needed 1 only. I paid for 1 only (EUR 150 + shipping).
Again and again I did remind Ed to send the display. Some weekes ago he announced to send one. But I didn't get one. I noted it by mail, without any response.

A bit very late reply but no, I unfortunately can't fix leaking display's; you likely need another display unit.perry wrote: Hi I think my LCD is leaking can you fix this also
Obviously you have the AEG brand of display, not the more regular Bosch unit.
With AEG a leaking display is a common problem, their flatcable mounting is MUCH better so no pixel failures.
With Bosch it's the pixel failure problem; I never saw one having a leaking display.

@ED: It would be great if you finally deliver me a repaired display. The spring comes up, I want to restore my 164 (already the 3rd after I ordered a display from you 2 years ago!
). If you don't manage it to repair it please resend me the defunct one.
There is a guy from the German 164 forum who successful repairs the displays as well. He manage it and obviously from the good feedback he actually delivers.

Re: -= A/C DISPLAY REPAIR=-
I am also in need of refurbishing my A/C display. Would it still be possible to do? I presume it's not a particularily hard job to disasemble the unit from the car. The question also is, does it come out as a whole unit (including all the switches below the display), or just the display itself? From the techical manuals it's not immediately clear, although it looks like it comes out together with all the buttons. I shall do so once I get my Q4 back from the workshop.

Hello I have just had mine repaired by Porto, and from the photo it looks perfect
It is easy to remove, all you do is lower the cover for the fuse box under the steering wheel, remove the two trim screws holding the small leather covered cover at the left hand side of the display unit and remove. You will see two securing screws to the unit itself, remove these and the right hand plastic cover (only clipped on) then you can pull out the unit to a point where you have to disconnect the connectors to the rear. These are removed by pressing the tab on the left hand side and once pulled out of the header you will need to unhook the right hand side of the connector to remove it from the back of the unit.
That is basically it

If your display is unreadable then I can fix it.
Alfamuppets disassembly is correct... this is another option:
Disassembly of the unit is not a very big job. You remove the two screws which hold the side cover on the left, the right side cover can be pulled out without removing any screws. After you removed the left side panel, you see three screws, two big ones and one small one... After you've removed these screws you pull the unit outwards while pushing HARD against the side of the cockpit. The meaning of this is because the top left corner of the unit MUST come loose first (it's partly stuck behind the cockpit) and then you pull the whole unit out of the dash. Don't be afraid, you won't damage your cockpit or unit. The two connectors on the backside can be a PITA to disconnect but on the right is a little clip you push in and pull the connector up, right side first then the left side.
It'll come out with all the buttons etc. You have to send me the whole unit because only the display is a bit fragile and can be damaged easily in transport.
PM me if you are interested.
Regards... Davy
PS. I had to change my price to 100 euro instead of 90 because of higher cable cost.
If you are interested I will still repair your display for 90 euro.

Porto, Alfamuppet, thanks a lot for your replies. I am definitely looking forward to having my display fixed, I'm glad it's possible. Currently my car is in the workshop having its cambelt (and others) done, but once I get it back (under a month, depending on how much work they will have to do), I will PM you and we can arrange the details. Rest assured Porto, you have a customer!
