Sorry Alfan, the manufacturer I was involved with went bankrupt.... :?
So I have to look for another possibility.
These things take a lot of time, so I put it in de fridge for a while.

Hi everybody

the topic of air intake hoses for the Q4 has dried up some time ago.
I have a request from a frind (who does not speak English very well) on this.

Question #1:
Has there been any progress since the last posting?

By the way, I was not yet able to find the parts number for the hose.
What Ennio wrote in his first posting, is wrong:
Ennio wrote:Hi I am searching for a 164 Q4 (I think it is 94-95) air intake flex hose (part number 60594238).
Thanks
This part number shows up im my "Q4 Replacement Parts" Microfiche too (same in EPER):
Image

But in reality the Q4 hose looks like this:

Question #2:
What is the true part number?

Helli
I got the one that fits my Q4 :wink:
That would then be the one in your photo. I will see if I can find a photo of my engine later today.

Btw. you can NOT trust the photos in eper - some are correct, some are not!!!

I've seen the silocone alternative but nothing that comes close to the original.

I had a spare which was send to a company in England who should be able to reproduce it but they went bancrupt and I've never seen it again.

Are the materials used in 3D printers already suitable for intake rubbers? See this video clip:

That is quite incredible!
I really have not followed the advance of 3D-printing.
What do they need as "master"? a drawing? or a 1:1 model?

I think both are possible; if you do not have a 3D drawing they use a 3D scanner of an actual part (that could be one with a small tear in it e.g.).

http://www.stratasys.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There are companies that offer the service, as most 3D printers are still too pricey to own by yourself. This is one in Thailand:
http://www.protothai.com/en/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I just do not know if the materials that are used would perform equally well.

I think it will be worth it to ask.. maybe we have to make a poll on who is interested to buy one..

My intake hose is alright so far, but I'm certainly up for one or more spare ones. Since I just joined recently, I might start to do some research on this topic as well.

I have a suggestion though. I think it would be very helpful to gather a list of rubber bits and pieces from our Alfas that are N/A or hard to find, something similar to the "alternative parts" section, but say "re-manufacture wishlist". Afterwards, I would search for a company/method to produce not only the one intake hose, but perhaps also some of the other elements, which may bring the total cost down.

I myself would gladly order more of each of those items, and could distribute them later on without problems.

That is a great idea and a very nice offer to help :)

I had a plastic part made at work, recently, and that has worked well (separate info on that coming later). If you don't have a technical drawing of it, a 3D scan should be possible, then it is a question of having the print done in the correct material(s).

All of this should be possible and if you find out more about this, I think we could have a good possiblity of getting the hard-to-get parts much easier - I can definitely also find parts on my Lancia, that could benefit from this...

I think I saw a thread on http://www.alfabb.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; about someone having a door handle reproduced for an older Alfa model, I will see if I can find that again.

This the company in The Netherlands who did this:
SolidProof
Mozartstraat 18
7131 AH Lichtenvoorde , Netherlands
http://www.solidproof.nl/3dprinting" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You can open the Excel file there for some pricing but I don't really understand it. Maybe some of our Dutch members could approach them. I am not getting a lot of replies here locally in Thailand.

Sorry guys, currently no time for this undertaking... I keep it in mind though and will try to do some research when the time allows.

I was able to find a number of companies which make custom (i.e. made to customer specification) rubber moldings, including intake hoses. I think the project is definitely doable.

I'm in contact with the Dutch company.

i can start it over here in Holland, this is a very expensive project. to make the mold for the 24v QV, Q4 and 12v QV will be € 1000,= a piece, + the price for used product per hose.

I still look arround for other options.

What I would only need is a sample - even a cracked or perished one - and I can make any shape you want :)

Indeed it would be great...

The problem is the sample, i already lost my 24v QV hose to a company that would make a copy, the Q4 one are mostly still in the cars.
I have 1 for the 12v QV.

By the way, since Hendrik already asked, I think it's good to discuss the price, since it is very important for everyone. Looking at the pictures, I roughly estimate a 80 GBP price including VAT and free worldwide delivery.
