Re: all 4 door window weather sweep
Did anyone find a solution? I'd also be interested, and they are nowhere to be found. Those weather strips used to be around a few years ago, but aren't available anymore sadly.

Post some photos of your beauty when you find time, sounds really interesting, and very low mileage as well.

Re: Front brake discs >10/1992
Good question. I've heard there is an option to swap/upgrade to 166 discs and calipers or alternatively 156 GTA disc's and calipers, both with some mods (adapters etc.). I'll be looking at that when mine are due, as it has many advantages. Will let you know how it goes, but I don't think it will be ...

Hey Jim, awesome to see you around here :) Great that you posted about the book, I already have your other one on the V6 and really enjoyed it. In fact I would recommend it to everyone here sincerely. Since I have a soft spot for the 75 and the turbo variant in particular (who knows, maybe one day),...

Haha, good point
But then again, why should we ever consider such a travesty as to have to work on (or for that matter under) a VW product is beyond me

Hi Terence, welcome onboard!
Quite a nice set of Enrico Fumia designed cars you have, sorry to see the Gtv go (that's my long crush to be honest), but the Rosso Proteo Q4 is a stunner

Re: 164 Q4 ABS Light
My advice is do not try to open the ABS module, don't ask me how I know. You can unscrew it very easily (5 torx bolts you've mentioned), but it will not come apart without getting destroyed unless specialist tools are being used and the operator knows upfront what to expect where on the inside. Ther...

Re: 164 Q4 ABS Light
Hey Daryl, tho things I would suggest to check basing on my experience with intermittent ABS faults: - check the main ABS fuse, and - check the pump connector under the ABS cover (not the main plug, but the 6-pin connector between the ABS module and the pump/solenoids). Both of those get loose over ...

Re: Lowering springs on a Q4
I can recommend this shop: https://www.autosklep24.pl/pl/sales Shopped with them many times, shoot them and email and ask for what you need, the owner has some other sources as well and sometimes can get stuff outside of the shop's inventory. Got a spare set of rear Q4 springs from him a few years a...

Re: Alfa specialists attitude
I guess you're right, as unfortunate as it is. Car is getting old, they are well aware that parts are scarce and it's going to sit on their lot for a long time, taking up space they can otherwise use for "drive thu" services. Not to mention that by now most mechanics don't have the know-ho...

Re: replace starter
Correct, same procedure I used for my Q4 (without removing the drive shaft or gear linkage) so valid also for a Q4 drivetrain. This job overall is a PITA, 3 bolts only on the starter but in horrible location, some accessed from top, some from bottom. Needs a good size extension for the wrench (not t...

Re: Alfa 174 Q4 guarnizioni serbatoio
I have changed one of the gaskets in mine years ago, as it was leaking. Indeed the same gaskets as normal models (speaking about the big round rubber gasket under the jar-like screw-on lid). Be careful when removing the fuel line connectors, they are quick snap fittings and were stuck and hard to re...

Re: 24V serpentine belt idler pulley bearing
I've ended up using the complete 2.0 TS / 156 pulleys (e.g. SKF VKM 32007). They are not metal, but some sort of hard plastic but look and work very well (a few years now). The only thing is the inner diameter of the center hole in the bearing (where the screw goes) is slightly larger, so I had to u...

Re: 164 Q4 steering rods (WARNING!)
Great :) If you have the dimensions of the original FWD and modified FWD, that would be good to put here! Good point, sorry my Alfa tech did it for me or I would have gladly documented it. Basically he just got the outer side down to make the entire tie-rod the same length as the original Q4 tie-ro...

Re: 164 Q4 steering rods (WARNING!)
That might have been the case as well, memory is a bit hazy on this one
EDIT: I've just checked and actually the one needed for Q4 is shorter. See also the first post in this thread. So I'm pretty sure it was the matter of cutting the 'standard' 164 rods to length and then threading.

Re: 164 Q4 steering rods (WARNING!)
If I remember correctly I ended up cutting the 'regular' 164 tie rods to length of the Q4 ones and then threading them a bit deeper to match the thread length on the Q4 inner rod. This has worked well for me since, so may be worth a shot for you as well. I think I wrote about this somewhere already ...

Re: Trouble diagnostics for 4WD light
Hi Victor, as far as I'm aware - only F/L Tester can do the trick, no chance to diagnose the 4WD system using any modern equipment I'm afraid. :( Best bet to find someone with the correct Marelli tester and modules, and do the diagnosis this way. I was also unable to diagnose mine a few years ago so...

As I remember it differs between versions, main fuse on mine was under the hood on the firewall, near the coolant reservoir, just stuck on there. From my experience ABS faults an be electric related. Have a look at my thread, I also had the light on albeit without any clear cause, after many years of struggle I fixed it by cleaning the connections between the main ABS fuse and its holder: http://alfaromeo164register.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&...

Excellent news! And congrats on getting this fixed so quickly, it can be a real chore to deal with those problems but you really got it sorted very nicely.
You've now inspired me to look into my 'pressure variations too high' issue as well.
Enjoy the test drive!

Re: Hydraulic pressure, value too low
Good that you remembered Alfan, I've added a post in that thread just now to conclude the discussion, as I ended up getting 60605589 directly from Alfa Romeo which has solved my problem. Reproducing was not successful in my case. I suspect flow restrictors have not been swapped out correctly which h...
