Re: Q4 flywheel resurfacing & pressure plate sourcing
I resurfaced a couple of Q4 flywheels last summer, and I machined both surfaces equally. It is the logical thing to do. Unfortunately I can't give any input on where to find a new pressure plate. I have a bunch of used ones laying around, some in great condition. If I remember correctly, one is driv...

Re: rubber hose
All 164 24V has the same hose. I think I made mine from a piece of thicker fuel hose, bought at the local parts shop. Probably cost around 4 euros to make. You can heat it slightly to permanently bend it, so it fits well and looks like the original. A heat gun or warm water works well for this.

Re: Q4 in Germany
Hi Finalfa, thanks! I alredy started with removing everything around the engine (11h) so far and then lifitng the engine out with the gearbox. The route for doing this is because I have a lift, but due to its design I can't drop the subframe. Thanks for the offer! I probably get back to you. I've r...

Re: Q4 in Germany
Hi Max I replaced the belt on your Q4. Such a shame to hear that the engine is now scrapped. :| The car ran very well when it left the garage. Unfortunately I have seen this happen quite a few times where owners new to the Alfa V6 (especially 24v models) rev their engines too hard and too long, wit...

Left front.
When doing the rear, make sure the suspension is at loaded level. This can be done in a number of ways. Otherwise, enough fluid won't reach the caliper.

The part number for the steering angle sensor is 60568856.
The sensor has three cables. One for ground, one for constant 5V and one for signal.

Re: Q4 Viscomatic hoses (hydraulic lines)
Opening up this thread again. Had to make new hoses for Viscomatic on one of my Q4;s recently. I actually made them of AN lines and fittings. Used AN4 teflon hoses for everything. The Teflon AN hoses has a pressure rating of 275 bar, so they`re more than well suited for the job. Finding the correct...

Re: Q4 awd warning light on instrument cluster. HELP
The tester socket for the AWD is also right next to the ECU. Passenger side in the centre console, remove cover and you should see the ECU with VISCOMATIC written on it. From there, you can follow a short cable which is a 3- pin connector, which the tester connects to. Ask if you want pictures of an...

Re: Q4 awd warning light on instrument cluster. HELP
Here you have all the electrical connections in the Viscomatic ECU, which is located in the center console, on the passenger side. If you have any questions about measuring these, I can help you. The AWD system on these cars are a little bit problematic when something goes wrong, but it is surprisi...

mm... If the light never goes out after self check, that reduces the possible faults significantly. Can be worth it to check in Alfabb.com / alfaowner.com, if anyone has a tester to loan/rent to you. The tester makes life just much more easy. What you need is the Magneti Marelli tester, MA12-A modul...

Re: Q4 awd warning light on instrument cluster. HELP
If you would put the car on a lift with NON-functioning AWD the rear wheels will still turn if drive is on. The question is that does the Viscous coupling engage or not. If you don't feel comfortable with electronic diagnostic tools, now is a great time to learn! When you turn the key in the ...

Re: How to empty the power steering/Viscomatic hydraulic system
Flush the system. I did so a couple of times when changing from ATF to more suitable fluid for the colder climate in Finland. A couple of months after the fluid change, I had to rebuild all the pipes, due to the supply hose being rusty and started leaking. There was no sign of ATF in the system, onl...

My mechanic (old AR workshop) said that has already tested the car with the right module (must be MA-12A, right?) but I will verify this tomorrow. Re: Trouble diagnostics for 4WD light
Can you verify that the AWD does NOT work when the light is on? I have had the light come up a couple of times, but the AWD works even though the light is on. The reason for the light coming up a couple of times was the steering angle sensor having a poor connection. There's a couple of ways to veri...

Does anyone have any info regarding doing a clutch replacement on a Q4? From what I've heard, and what it looks like, it seems to be a pretty big job. Beautiful 164 you've got your hands on! Will definitely follow this thread. And remember to post a lot of pictures!
You got very lucky with getting a lot of spares, as the supply surely is drying up for 164:s. Sounds like you made a great deal.

From my experience ABS faults an be electric related. Have a look at my thread, I also had the light on albeit without any clear cause, after many years of struggle I fixed it by cleaning the connections between the main ABS fuse and its holder: http://alfaromeo164register.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&...
