Re: Roofliner refurbishment

Hi Nils, Key is to take your time because everything you touch is basically very fragile. Taking out the roofliner + panel took me 5 hours and I needed a second pair of hands to remove it from the car. It's a giant 3D puzzle but can be done best by removing it through the left rear door without any ...

Re: brake servo

There are some companies specialized in rebuilding boosters like this one.
I guess it's not rocket science.... Looks like they know what they're talking about though.

Re: Roofliner refurbishment

Mine started to detach behind the rear seats so initially I couldn't care less. The sunroof construction would keep it under control but because this wouldn't repair itself I decided to investigate how to take out the sunroof. For me this was the go no go step. After a while I found out it was very ...

Roofliner refurbishment

Well, I guess eventually it will happen to all cars. Even to the ones that spend most of their time in an airconditioned garage. The roofliner fabric started getting loose to a point of no return. The foam backing degrades over time and turns to dust. Since my goal was to preserve the car as close t...

brake servo

Hi, did anyone ever try to restore their brake servo? Apparently there are no spares available and somewhere in the future many would certainly fail leaving the car undriveable. So what are the options? Does anyone know specialized companies that can refurbish the servo's? For sure car owners from o...

Re: Long time road going 164 Q4 1994 project

I guess it's either the fast or the right way to do it. The problem of course is there will be a lot of micro cracks everywhere in the insulation and protection coating causing corrosion underneath. You won't easily find them without totally stripping the surfaces and sandblasting away all the rust....

Roof lining

It's time for an annoying but necessary job. My roof lining needs some attention and according to my upholstery man the roof part could be easily taken out by only removing the right front seat and removing a few small items on the roof. He has ample experience (30 years in the business and did a fe...

Benvenuto! Welcome on this site.

Beautiful cars you have. So you are the one that apparently bought the proteo rosso Q4 for sale in the Netherlands, am I right?

The one showing on the lower picture was my third 164. I got her in 1998... Ciao!

Most probably a blocked water drain, think that's a common issue with a 156.

Be prepared to find a lot of rust.

Re: What is the purpose of this bonnet earth strap?

My best educated guess is to prevent any static charges from building up due to air flowing over the bonnet. This can lead to obvious issues when opening the bonnet after driving.
A missing ground wire has no effect on the car electronics.

Re: Oil Pressure

A fresh engine has about 21-28 PSI oil pressure at idle RPM when fully warmed up. (Above idle ± 49 PSI) Cold engine at idle: 49-56 PSI, above idle max. 63 PSI. Pressure indications of near zero are no exception, most probably the transmitter is the culprit especially when the oil pressure warning li...

Re: Oil Pressure

Am I correct that this spring only regulates the max oil pressure? 55 PSI at cold startup ik normal. Low oil pressure is caused by a faulty oil pump, internal component failure or worn/leaking engine. Most likely the pressure transducer is the cause of the low pressure indication. Any cause other th...

Q4 Meeting

Just to have something for the eye on this forum (I guess a 164 is very much about shape and design) I'll put a few photo's here of a spontaneously organized Q4 meeting yesterday at Schiphol airport. https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/680x422q90/631/Dnfz0y.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/681x42...

This is definately a factory spec Q4....

What happened in most cases when the Q4 came out owners disliked the original colour scheme and had the side panels painted after the car was delivered.
