Re: Presentation me and my 164 3.2.
Cool stuff, very similar to my car (164 3.2 with 6-speed and Q2)!

Yes it is super tight
Good to hear you managed to get it out.
Did you find the defect/problem?

Re: Q4 in Germany
Hi Max I replaced the belt on your Q4. Such a shame to hear that the engine is now scrapped. :| The car ran very well when it left the garage. Unfortunately I have seen this happen quite a few times where owners new to the Alfa V6 (especially 24v models) rev their engines too hard and too long, with...

You have to take the unit out, and disasseble the whole thing.
I have a spare unit for you (display not working) if you need it.
cheers

Re: FIXED THE ERROR MOVEMENT PISTON PROBLEM VISCOMATIC!
Hi, I am on holiday for one more week, will send the info as soon as I get back. The basic idea is that the PWM controller is hooked up directly to the solenoid (the big one at the back, with the 36mm hex fitting). As a power supply I used a 2a 12v power supply from my wifi router :-) Just to ensure...

Poll: Who is interested in manual Q4 viscomatic controllre
Hi all After succesfully reviving the Q4 system in my Q4 with a manual PWM generator, it made me wonder if any of the other Q4 drivers would be interested in a kit that would be more or less plug and play. Especially if I would include a gauge hooked up to the Q4 position sensor, it would make a pre...

FIXED THE ERROR MOVEMENT PISTON PROBLEM VISCOMATIC!
Dear all, As you could have read in my previous posts, I was struggling with the dreaded 'Error Piston Movement' problem after the rebuild of my Q4. Also with my previous Q4 i was facing this problem. I tried to bleed the system with the Alfa Tester MA12A module numerous times, without success. Als ...

Sounds like incorrect oil, you need the special green hydraulic fluid. Not regular ATF oil.

Re: Q4 Viscomatic "bad piston movement" while bleeding
Hi Guys, I have almost finished rebuilding my Grigio Nuvola 164 Q4 (complete respray, etc.) The previous owner replaced the pressure line from the Steering pump to the viscomatic valveblock, as well as one line from the visco block to the dif (the one with the smaller banjo (there is a 17mm and a 19...

Re: swap engine on 164
Build a 164 24v engine with 3.2 internals, if done right you should see a reliable 265 HP, which is plenty for the 164 chassis.

Re: ABS relays - how to remove them?
The relays are welded to the circuit board.
You can cut the connections and replace the relay with any other relay with correcet specs.
If I remember correctly, they are heavy 50A ones.
good luck

Re: Alfa 164 3.2 GTA spec engine rebuild
Today I went to Squadra Tuning for optimalisation of the ECU to the 3.2 engine.
I am really happy with the results, the highest dyno run was 267 HP and 309 Nm.
Not bad for a 20 years old 164
(with a new engine
)
Photos and Videos will follow

Do not go for a non-airbag steering wheel...
Any Alfa 166 steering wheel will work (GTV/Spider 916 also), and will retain function of the airbag.

Re: Alfa 164 Q4 3.5 'Savali' progress thread
Yep the cluster is Q4 specific. It had a kind of dampening/delay in the fuel level gauge, because of the complicated system with 3 level senders in the tank.
A "normal" cluster does however work in the q4, fuel level is just a little more "dynamic".

What about the ECU? Did you use the original Motronic, a remap or something else?
The car is currently running the stock ECU, After 1.500 kms break-in it will go to Squadra Tuning to get a custom remap.

Re: Alfa 164 3.2 GTA spec engine rebuild
Thanks!
I know the current intake is quite rare, so I will not change it.
If anyone is interested in trading it with the more common 'V6 24V' inake (without the 3.0) please contact me.
Cheers
Michel

Well, if you are planning to do an engine rebuild anywhere in the future, you now know that it is possible to upgrade to 3.2 spec without any modification to the auxilliaries

Alfa 164 3.2 GTA spec engine rebuild
Hi Guys,
In the past months I rebuilt an engine for my 164, with 3.2 crankshaft, pistons, rods, etc.
A short recap of the project can be found here:

Re: alfa gtv 3.0 gearbox
You can change the push-clutch, to a pull design clutch of later V6 24v models easily. All you need is the clutch-set And the fork+lever on the gearbox from a 24v (156/166/gtv also works). Personally I would upgrade to a 6-speed box. Any 6-speed FWD box fits, but you will need to also install the ge...
