Please help !
What is the right way to take off and replace the starter unit on 164 3L V6 1988 ?

156 1.8 TS 2001 165000KM.
EX : 33 SW 1.5, 1.3 ie, 1.5 ie, 33 1.7 QV 16V, GIULIETTA 116 1.6, ALFA 6 2.5 (X3), 146 boxer 1.6 , 164 SUPER 2.0 TS.

Well boys I did not wait for answers of course.
There is no way other on a 3.0L V6 in order to take down the starter:
plenum
exhaust pipe
starter hot shield
exhaust tube
middle gear shaft
164 3.0 V6 1988 330000KM
164 2.0 TS 1989 243000KM
164 SUPER 2.5 TD 1993 308000KM
156 1.8 TS 2001 165000KM.

It can be done without pulling the middle driwe shaft :) At least on 2.0V6 - but the rest was the same :)

Correct, same procedure I used for my Q4 (without removing the drive shaft or gear linkage) so valid also for a Q4 drivetrain. This job overall is a PITA, 3 bolts only on the starter but in horrible location, some accessed from top, some from bottom. Needs a good size extension for the wrench (not too long, not too short). Plan for a few long hours, busted knuckles and a few beers on the way as well :D
