Re: Alfa164Diagnostics

Post by Sbarham »

I have a 94LS that just rolled over 100K km, the AIR BAG light is solid after a few minutes and has been out as long as I have had the car ( 4 years - mostly with bulbs removed). I have no idea how long the system has been inoperative.
I am having trouble getting the ECUs to respond or be identified.
I have the Lonelec USB to Ser and Ser to Fiat 3 pin package and have used cigarette lighter for 12V as well as an LED 120 to 12v DC transformer. I have loaded the program and drivers on both a Win 7 64bit computer and an older Win XP laptop.

On both machines I can't get past the 'Connecting to ECU...' phase.

TWICE, for reasons I can't resolve, I received the following ECU identification

COM 1
Ecu Identification 3660021620 3337537621
Address 10 Device found (USB Serial Port (COM1))
Alfa164_30V6_M17

but was unable to retrieve any data.
I have tried slowest speeds in the software and driver and have reloaded the software and drivers many times.
I have attempted to connect on T3 at the firewall end of the console, and also on nearby T1.
I also measured voltages on T3 (wh/rd 10.8, bl 0.010, bl/wh 6.68v) and on T1 (wh/rd 9.73, bl 0.000, bl/wh 6.68) with an idling engine.

QUESTION: I see mostly European cars in this thread...is it possible the ECU numbers for this Canadian car are different from those in the software?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Have you tried connecting to the engine ECU or the ABS, to see if that works?

I know that 164 owners in the US have managed to connect to ECU's in their cars, so I don't think that is an issue.

Any chances to connect 2.0 V6 TB Super? I have made an attempt yesterday with no result.

Othe rthing is my car died and does not want to start. It might be my ECU is gone...

Difficult to answer that one, but please check again that you have 12V on the system when doing this. The units you have, should be covered by the program. For the airbag part there is a check mark you have to choose, depending on the type of airbag system.

I am not sure if the TB ECU version is covered in the list. Does your car have an immobilzer system? If so, it might be the problem, and there are some threads on this site about that.

No Immo. The car 1993, so too early.

Nevertheless ECU is fine, since the car started today (funny, since it didn't wanted to work for a week and started after the rain). I still have no idea which software I can use to connect ECU.

Maybe multiecuscan works, but it would be simplest to find out which ECU version is in your car first. There should be a list of which ones are covered in the program, used as you can see in Wilco's program.

Most important is that you got it started again! :) Probably time to look at electrical connections for this not to happen again...

Hi guys,

I tried to move my Q4 this morning but each time I started the engine, she died almost straight away. So I tried to install the diagnostics software but I think the link for it might be broken? Because clicking the link takes me to an unrelated web page. Can someone please confirm whether or not the link works correctly?

If it is the links in the first post you are referring to, that is simply downloading the exe files, which works fine for me.

Just tried those links in the first post, it seems to be working fine now.
The link I previously tried was on this page:

First of all many thanks for making this diagnostics software available.
I have successfully used the Alfa164diagnostics to clear an airbag error code and connected to main ecu.

Right now I am trying to trouble shoot the ABS.
The ABS warning light comes on after driving a few meters so it should be one of the sensors or wiring.
Alfa164Diagnostics manages to connect to the ABS ECU but doesn't seem to recognise it.
The ABS is listed as "Unknown 6B 02 2A 10 7C" (see attached screenshot).

Using version 1.0.16, can I do anything to help debug / fix this?

Based on the screen dump it does not look like you are connected. Which 164 version do you have?

You should be able to read the Bosch part number on the pump unit, that could indicate which ABS version you have.

It's a 1997 Super V6 Turbo
Bosch part number of the ABS is 0 265 204 005.

I might be wrong but in the screen screen dump it looks like the program finds an ECU but cannot recognise it.

Try reading from page 2 in this thread, as it contains the same problem. I am not sure that was ever resolved.

Googling the code you get showed this: http://forum.multiecuscan.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3638" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
indicating that it is the Bosch 2Si ABS system.

a 97 abs should be no problem.. you do have it connected to the connector next to the airfilter ?

It should connect to any 164 Bosch ECU. It could be that the TB is not recognized, but there should be a connection anyway.

Hello, Wilco!
Wilco starting from the very very big letter W! It's are really big invention! But can you explain me how I must solder USB cable for connection of my notebook to my loving Q4 (really I'm having two Q4)? Anyway- USB out having the pins +5 V, -5V, DATA + and DATA -). But I suppose, that datas from alfa having voltage +12 and in this case I can easy create 2-way adapter from 5 V DATA to 12 V DATA. But! Connectors of diagnostic systems of Q4 having 3 pins- and I don't know how to connect them, because I'm don't having the electrical circuit of that contraptions. How I can connect my computer with my Q4?

Hi!

Anyone had any errors on win10? If I run the program without the cable connected - it opens, but as soon as I click open port - it freezes and crashes. If I connect the usb cable, I can't even open the program - it crashes after loadnig and shows an error report...
Anyone had similar problems? Since I'm not a computer geek, I have no idea where to start the search...

Those are the ones you need, no soldering required. 12V you can get from the car.

Win10 works with no problems for me. Sounds like you need to look at the port setup on your PC. I don't have the cable here to plug in, so cannot provide any detailed info.
