In my Q4 it doesn't...
I forgot to ask which oil you are using now?
I still have this new type of GI/R. works fine when it's cold (winter time) but on "hot" summerdays i get too little hydraulic pressure and 4wd light is always on when idling. Also i get a leak from recond steering rack at summer. So best guess is that oil is too thin when hot?!?

I looked further into this and it turns out that the level indeed was too low (hadn't seen the 'Max' mark was so high in the reservoir). Now I don't have any unwanted sounds from the servo. It says ISO VG 22 on the Tutela GI/R bootle and from what I can see that should work well for a broad temperature range, so I will stick to this oil for now and monitor what happens over time.

I have updated the list of issues. Some have been fixed and new ones appeared. Main things to look at are 4WD and idle speed regulator and they might not be that simple to fix, but at least I have a pretty good idea of what is causing these problems.

You can give yourself more credit than in your update; you forget to mention in "fixed" that you have finished replacing your gearbox!

I mention that it was replaced under the steering rack part. As such it wasn't a problem, as I am sure the gearbox could have lasted many more miles, so it didn't get a separate mention.

But it is good to know that you are aware of the details in my project :)

Yes, I find it refreshing to read how you use your 164 so intensely, put on a lot of miles and enjoy taking care of it. It's an inspiration and promises me that I still have many miles/years left in mine!

I managed to get the HVAC running again, but not up to full speed. Above 4 bars it does not increase speed. I replaced the center console and Q31 (aircon regulator unit), and the blower motor is ok, so I need to look at the cables at some point.

I also installed an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, that is a very nice feature this time of year :D

And I took a drive in the Lancia today, that was a joy 8)

The Q4 has been running well recently, still some issues to fix, but it went through the yearly inspection last week with no remarks :D

I got the support on the underside of the carpet in the boot replaced, as the original paper like stuff was falling apart.

I hope to replace the oil cooler, as it is leaking a little.

It is now showing 490.000km, so it has actually passed 500.000km, since I drove it for 6 months without it showing speed or counting mileage.

Time to get summer tires on soon :D

I have updated the status on the issues in the first post. I have also attached photos of the ABS pump motor when disassembled from the hydraulic unit. I also uploaded a short video, but I cannot see that it is there, so have a look in dropbox, if you are interested.

I replaced the center console with another used on and the hazard lights are not turning on intermittently anymore.

I also had the condensor replaced today, so that I can stay cool in the close to 30 deg celcius we are having here at the moment 8)

Hello,

Problem with the hazard lights coming on by themselves sits mostly in the flatcable between the two halves of the display / airco unit. When you open it, there is an 4-pin flatcable (right above the buttons for fueltank and trunk) which probably has loose solder joints on the switchboard side; reflow them and you're good to go!

If this is not the case, another relais can solve this or just bend the relaispins a little for better contact in the socket.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts. I fixed the relay for the hazard lights some years ago, and that has been fine ever since. I am sure it's in the aircon unit, as replacing that fixed the problem :)

Fantastic! What a milestone. And that in a complicated automobile like the Q4! It's not my car, but I feel proud.

Thanks - I have done ½ of the total mileage of the car in 11 years, and it has - and still is - an awesome car to drive :)

I installed a fully working part (Q31) with some heat sink and now it works. I have to update the text in my first post.

I will keep the other cars, so at some point (4C delivery is not until next year, though I signed the contract last year...), a group photo should be possible!
