Interesting concept; loyal readers of this and especially the Dutch sister site know that license plates are a pet peeve of mine and just the fact that someone took the effort to think about it and tried an alternative by relocating it on, what is still the best bum in the business, deserves praise.

Toyota, always a copier of head and tail lights, did one on their 1994 Carina:

I find the original 164 solution more elegant (despite of the colour of certain license plates not doing the design any favours).

Alfa didn't put much effort in hiding the Superseries "mules" during the testphase...

On the last pic is it possible the black tape holds on panel resonance sensors?

It's actually a bit entertaining to look at this topic...

Boy, you have no idea, what i've seen, at all.

If i tell you i had 3 trips to a site, near a small town called Arjeploug, northern Sweden. Loaded with some "equipment" at my truck, in January last year.
This is the place.
http://www.colmis.com/

I had even a full weekend friday to monday inside, at the "wrong" side of the fence.

I can tell a bit.
Some (=alot) Fiat 500's was driving arround.
The next Fiat Coupe' (Coupe' Fiat) drove a ving mirror of at my trailer... That's true.
Peugeot tested a open, free wheeled (F1 or Lotus Seven [But shorter] style) 2 person roadster.
Audi was there...
SAAB's with Haldex marks all over (Sadly the SAAB company is no longer.)
Opel tested next gen. Insignia 1 was 4x4 + V6 + Turbo Sound was awsome, NOT Busso but close (Might be the turbo...)
So i've seen some of this stuff close and up front, talked to technicians and touched the cars.
Some was even not taped up or diguised at all.

Hmm, sounds like an interesting place to visit; pity it's not open for private individuals.

Btw, seems a bit over the top to test open sportscars in polar conditions!

have you given any thoughts to stuff like,; ABS EDS, Electronic limited slip diff, launch control etc...
Optimal conditions to test that kind of stuff.

By the way, there where - 36 deg below...
Friggin' cold, but not feeling THAT cold.
It's a different world up there, especially in the winter.

There's other test facilities like Colmis in that arear, and on the public roads, i spotted the new BMW 3 series, even a M3 and the facelifted 6 series running arround without any tape or matt black painting...

I'f you go, it's not that tough as it seems to.
There's a lot of ski resorts on the Norwegian side, only a short drive to Arjeplough, and arround 20 at night, the secret stuff enters the public roads.
Very exiting as a petrol head with 104 octane running in the veins...
