Lowering springs on a Q4

Post by Tamariini »

Anyone found a decent set of lowering springs to be used in Q4?

I'm not looking for a sump-breaking 60-80mm of lowering but more likely 20-30mm.

Does original shocks work with a lowered suspension? anyone tried?

I bought a new set of OZ ultraleggera's at 19" as a christmas present for my Q4 :D

So this lowering issue is now back on again. I think car would look strange with those wheels without lowering...

Also bought a set of Ferrari 355 brake calibers to upgrade the brakes

Anyone knows where to get lowering springs?

There are no providors anymore to lower a Q4.
You could sent an email regarding this to H&R, but I think the're out of stock for a long while.

He is not active anymore on the forums (fora?)

I guess he ordered the springs here (since he mentions that factory was founded in 1853):

I know this is going to sound crazy, but you can actually cut 1 or even 2 rings of the rear springs without any issues.

I lowered my Q4 using this method when running my 19" OZ Superleggera's, and it worked fine.

There remains plenty of pre-load on the springs, and I would not want stiffer springs in combination with the low 35 serie tires.

For the front you can use regular 24v lowering springs (e.g. FK / Eibach, etc.)

Not too stiff or too short a travel height of the springs when driving fast?
An acquaintance of mine once tried this on his car and at higher speeds I was glad I had my flight license in my pocket even on a Dutch highway...

Isn't there any risk of leaking stock absorbers when they are not new anymore? The internal seal ring will be in contact with a possible rougher surface, or is this just theoretically speaking?

No, it was trouble free ;-)

There remains plenty of travel in the suspension for the shockabsorbers to work correctly.
At the front you will need a pair of 'regular' lowering springs, but these are easy to come by.

The rear shock absorbers are pretty forgiving, if you remember the Alfa Boet 164 Q4 that was rediculously low at the rear (alledgedly special springs by Savali), that car used the original shocks and didnt handle too bad either (just got stuck on every speed bump :-))

I loved our brake setup ,I was thinking of using Volvo 4 pot calipers with slotted rotors
I only have 17x6 1/2" with 215x45x17 tyres
Do you fine that the CV drive shaft rub on the power steering belt ?
cheers mate

I would not recommend too much lowering or lowering at all. You do not gain much from it. I am working on some springs that lower the front but need some rear Q4 springs to copy. Otherwise you can cut 1 coil off rear but you run the risk of wearing out electronic struts much quicker and you loose the factory suspension geometry which is pretty much flawless.

Bringing this one back to life!
I'm working on a custom set of Lowering springs for the Q4.
having the factory spring rates tested and will fabricate a new set according to those rates. I will have the rates increased as I feel the factory springs are to Soft and create too much bounce. If anyone is interested I may be able to get a discounted price on a group buy.
This is in it's very very early stages so patience is a virtue. I'll post the rates once I have them.
You can pm me if you're interested or give a comment here.
Thanks Paul

My experience is that my Q4 never were soft - it may have been in sport mode most the time :D which dampers do you have on the car?

Looking forward to hear what you get out of it 👍

I've been dealing with other projects and have not had time to start the process of lowering spring for the Q4.. But for stock springs try these 2 contacts.
try Jurgen

I found the springs brand new few years ago on https://www.autosklep24.pl/pl/sales but not sure they still have them but doesn't hurt to email them. Good luck

I can recommend this shop: https://www.autosklep24.pl/pl/sales

Shopped with them many times, shoot them and email and ask for what you need, the owner has some other sources as well and sometimes can get stuff outside of the shop's inventory. Got a spare set of rear Q4 springs from him a few years ago when they were there, engine mounts, various bushings, etc.
