I'm always a a bit miffed by the Italians and their design; how can a country that produces this:


Get the idea to produce this:

And more horrible examples can be found. So, I guess you get the odd one who thinks that he can improve upon Pininfarina's lines. Sadly, he (can't imagine a she)'s mistaken.

True, and that is from the same designer (unlike the lighting fixtures). I guess a man's got to eat...but by and large I think Pininfarina mostly gets it right. As you know I have also owned several Pugs (405 and 406) and although much more mundane and less passionate than the 164 I have always enjoyed their clean lines. Even that MPV you showed is not too hideous (I mean what are you gonna do to beautifully design a box), but I agree, he could have done a lot better. Maybe he was simply inspired when he got the job for the 164. Alfa needed a large sedan which they could sell at profitable prices (unlike the 33 of which they produced a lot but lost money on most of them). Nothing that gets the creative juices flowing as a good crisis.

Thankfully, Pininfarina certainly delivered!
