My fourth 164 cloverleaf

Post by Timw1114 »

Just bought my fourth 164 cloverleaf and my second 12v. Can't seem to be without one.
This is a project car and needed saving and I couldn't resist. It has a blown engine so if anyone can steer me in the direction of a 12v cloverleaf engine I'd be very grateful.
I fell in love with these cars when I borrowed my brothers and was blown away with the engaging way it drove, that magnificent engine and sheer Alfaness of it all.
I look forward to getting her back up and running and listening to a 12v busso at full song.

Hi
Engine stripped and found 2 big ends gone so in for a regrind in the new year. The bores appear remarkably good but not sure whether to rering the pistons or not. I shall rebuild the cylinder heads anyway and if I can get a set of cams but funds may not allow.
I only have one 164. The first one I had H465JLA went to a specialist breakers due to rust 20 odd years ago when they were worthless 2nd and 3rd both 24v sold on, the second back to it's previous owner!
I'm looking for a bonnet by the way if anyone knows of a sound one?
Many thanks and merry Christmas

Great to see good progress 8)

Did you find more things to fix, while you were at it? And if you have photos of the rebuild, please share :)

Hi
By way of an update. I've rebuilt the engine had the original 12v gearbox rebuilt and refitted. Quickly sprayed her with new wing and bonnet.
Now the hard part. The multitude of electrical gremlins. Most I have fixed but I cannot get the hazards to work. Interior lights don't work, heater fan doesn't work. Rear demister permanently on and so on.
Anyway getting there.

Hi 164 people.
I'm having an oil pressure crisis. Not sure why but the pressure is dropping and dropping when hot. Decided to pull it and inspect but before I do would like a replacement crankshaft to hand. Is anyone able to point in the direction of one?
Any help much appreciated

Thanks Tim

That is a shame! Have you established that it is not an electrical gremlin, before doing anything else? I have had that same type of reading in my Q4, and that was a faulty sensor, which is fairly common...

Yes, beware of the faulty sensors... Also ofc depends on what oil you're running. I switched to Motul 300V 20W60 long time ago and it did help with hot oil pressures (I'm not driving the car in the winter at all, but Motul's 300V anyway has better W spec than most 10W60 oils).

Great looking car by the way, looks stunning! 8)
