Alfa 164 3.0 V6 12V QV "Q2" project

Hello everybody. Filip, 23 years old from Slovenia True Alfaholic and totally addicted to Alfa 164. I currently have 2 164 and 156. And also looking to buy original 164 3.0 12V QV - very hard to find in Slovenia. About family Alfa history. First Alfa was fathers Giulietta 2.0, then he had 4 164 TS and now I'm taking on tradition with Alfas in our family

First my baby which will be with me for ever, no matter what. Alfa 164, 2.0 TS, 1993. Currently in project of repairing chassis. Has a lot of rust unfortunately. Already repaired like million things. "New" engine, a lot of electricity repaired, completely new brakes (metal pipes, cylinders, rubber hoses, rebuilded all 4 brake calipers-new sealings, pistons, brake discs, etc...), air condition motors, power steering, new exhaust for V6, etc.. I can't even remember everything that I have done on this car already. I thing that there is not bolt on 164, that i haven't yet discover

Let pictures tell more about my work. And I'm doing everything by myself on 164. I just read service manuals if I don't know something and that's it.

First plan is to repair chassis and save her from rust. Primer color and then black body like original.

I wasn't satisfied with this part so I cleaned it up again, because there were still tiny parts of rust

If anybody interested maybe i could make mold for spoiler and make lighter spoilers for about 100-150€.



Steering wheel in TS. Most crazy steering wheel ever. Only 988 made.





All 4 electric shock absorbers in very good condition and set to sport/stiff.

Stupid ex owners installed free flow exhaust and let it touched QV bumper.. Here are results.

TS looking awful with original rims, so need to find and least nice 16' rims. Wish is 4 bolt Zender Milano, but we all know how hard they are to get.

Here's some progress with 2.5 TD

Interior will be back together again finally. I had a battle with rust on floor because of plugs that fell off and then water came.

Taking rust off with angle grinder and metal brush





Everything coated with antirust

I do agree, the TS is a fabulous car, one of the bests 4 cylinders engine of all times.
Here in France we have the same problems with the salt psychotics serial dealers who are spraying on there poison on the roads during winter months.

TD is all together again. Interior back in. Was trying to start her up, but i got some problem with fuel not going throw bosch pump. I hope that it is some sensor not working properly, but have feeling that could be old fuel filter which went apart, because previous owner didn't change it for nobody knows how long. And the last option is air in pump.

Engine was working ok when i bought her and i made 250km without any problem. Then it just stopped and didn't want to start again.

TS has no problem with that Just love that engine. It wasn't started for 1 year and then i just turned key and it was working like it was yesterday. Amazing engine.


BTW. If anybody wants scanned photos of Alfa 164 original book's from 1989, write me your email and i'll send you all photos. Unfortunately photos are not best quality because books are in pretty bad shape. I also photoshop them already, so they look a little bit better. Few photos for preview.

Since the TD doesn't have a fuelpump in the tank, the diesel has to be sucked to the engine. It will fail when the is some air in the system.

Did you pry the engine fuelpump by using the handpump on the fuelfilter?

On the top of the fuelfilter there is a round button. Open the bleedscrew on top of the filterhousing to get rid of air by pushing the round button several times. Close the bleedscrew. Try to start again.

In fuel tank, there is only pre-filter right? As far as i manage to see on EPER.

Forgot to mention that after long starting she starts and working for let's say about 1 min or less. Slowly after long starting fuel pump manage to fill hoses to injectors and until fuel runs out from pipes, engine is working.

Yes i tried to use hand pump on fuel filter, but didn't get any results. Probably because i forgot to unscrew bleeding screw

Will try that again today with unscrewed bleeding screw.

It is working again! Finally! Improvised tank and 2 hoses. That means that original pipeline from tank somewhere have hole or bad sealing and air is coming in.

Project was on cold for some time now, because I needed to graduate and then I opened company and online web shop for Alfa parts, so again I had work and I still have work, but much less with setting up everything

But things are about to go on again

On Monday I'm going to get this beauty! From 164 TS Super. Not even a 1mm of rust! Totally rust free! Exactly what I need for mine!








And also both rear panels of car. Both in great condition too










Also ordered compressor and only thing that I now still need is pneumatic pistol. And then..fun fun fun

164 2.5 TD went to parts, because crazy to much rust. Almost no part of chassis safe anymore

And then I found long time looking 3.0 V6 12V this year in february.

Complete engine with everything for 150€ It should have only 180k km, but I'll rebuild it anyway.














That was collection that time

Around 460hp. Engines 1x VM 2.5 TD, 2x 2.0 TS, 1x 3.0 V6 12V. Gearboxes 2x 2.0 TS, 1x 2.5 TD, 2x 3.0 V6 12V



I also found long looking switches for QV seats. Found them cheap in CZ for 55€ both with shipping.

I have almost nothing time, because I opened online shop with car parts specialized for Alfas last year!

So you will be concentrating on your 2 liter TS and 12V QV project (until you find a good TD (rolling body) again)?. Good to know that you opened a (164)parts service!

No. My 164 TS will stay 2.0 TS just until all the parts, body and 3.0 engine are ready to replace 2.0 TS parts.

164 TD was bought more or less just because it was cheap (350€) and had all the QV parts (interrior, electric suspension, outside). I thought that I would use her for daily, but nothing from that.

Maybe someday again, if I found good 164 2.5 TD Super year 97/98 to replace 156 for daily
