Armored Version 164 ,3.0L, V6 (1991) average pricing

Post by putize »

Dear fellows,
I am a rookie to your splendid site - maybe the most user friendly forum I have ever visited - and I am very happy that I have joined your company.

Being a true Alfisti (I want to believe...) I am deeply involved here in my country with classic Alfas (mostly 105 Series) and other makes as well. Feel free to spare a minute and visit my personal collection site : http://www.classic-cars.gr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, where all my beauties have been tidy gathered.

Some days ago, I have bumped into a 1991 Armored 164, 3.0L, V6, which is resting in a Workshop, with only 18,000 kms from new on the clock!

The vehicle instantly arouse my interest, in technical terms at first (I am a Dipl. Mechanical Engineer), with all these factory "additions" on it and then I was overwhelmed by its NOS condition! Car is completely new, factory mustard-ish leather is untouched, only one oil change in a forgotten service book in the glove compartment!
Car has no papers, only the complete series of Factory literature, still new and pages still stuck one each other. No one have ever opened these books...!

Do you happen to know, what will be a reasonable price to have this car? If somebody of course let me make an offer and take the car, put it in a garage and leave it there until it reaches its oldtimer entry age for FIVA registration? Meaning 9 years from now on...

I do not know why I want to mix up with a car that I won't be able to enjoy, but this car intrigued my Alfa spirit and interest.
I have already connected with Mr gentle "ALFAHEIDA" through ALFA BB Forum and I appreciate his first call to me.
Feel free to give me any help.
Yours,
Putize.-

My heart begins to bounce when I read your story. What a great oppertunity to own a very rare 164.
Maybe Marco Fazio has some answers regarding your question on the AlfaBB...
Abouth what it would be fair to pay for it??? That's a hard question. For me it's more important that this 164 gets a good owner.

Keep us posted!

Erwin

Dear Erwin,
At first I would like to thank you for your kind words.
I will try to have a good look on the Chassis Number, despite the Workshop owner's reluctance to welcome me in his place. People with their characters...always a big problem or a nice solution...
Of course I will keep you posted!
Take it for granted all the nice guys there, that you have found a true mate here in my Hellas in S. Europe.
Warm Regards,

Interesting find! And welcome to the site, Konstantinos.

Arjen (164TD)'s spot was offered for EUR 4900 as you can read.
I made a spot of one of these cars in 2008 when it was offered for sale in mobil.de website:
http://www.alfaclub.eu/164register/view ... f=7&t=3731" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
but the link has long expired; I am wrecking my brain what the asking price was, but not that much more than a normal 164 and also significantly less than EUR 10,000 if memory serves me right and mileage something like 70,000 km. Any of my Dutch colleagues who might recall that spot?

Hopefully this gives you a basis for negotiations; I don't think it can be very expensive; these special versions are usually hard to sell. Take the stretch versions of Mercedes E class; eye-wateringly expensive when new but very hard to sell 2nd hand even with low mileage.

While surfing I came across an old article that mentioned that Berlusconi's 164 blindata was involved in an accident in 1995 that killed a police officer (at least that is what I gather using google translate):

A comparable model (but maybe in a worse condition is being offered for sale in Montenegro for $1500 :

The 164 blindata is also often mentioned in John Follain's book:

Dear mates,
I have taken some very interesting pics of the armored 164 I have found.
Unfortunately, I cannot upload them to you, since there is a message on my screen : "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached"...
Do you happen to know, how can I recover this situation?
I thank you in advance for your help.

Upload the photos to an online photo/video hosting site e.g. https://imageshack.us/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That will generate a link and then place it in your message in between

Always a vivid help, dear "ALFA EAST".
I thank you for one more time.
I will try later on in the afternoon today, since I do not have the USB FLASH STICK containing the .jpgs with me at the moment.
I will keep you posted.

Terrific, I hope you will be able to make a deal and buy the car for a satisfactory price! If you do, make sure to check when was the last time the timing belt was changed because although the mileage is peanuts it doesn't get better with age (60.000 km or every 3-4 years whichever comes first is what many 3 liter owners recommend).

By the way, is the chrome lever with the "chiuso"-sign to lock the doors or close the window?

It is for closing the doors. Windows go up and down (half down of course...) via electric buttons in handbrake console.
Erwin, can anybody source the initial factory sale price back in 1991?
Thank you in advance,
Konstantinos.-
