Holiday drive with 164

At presernt I am in holidays in Liguria. I went here with the 164. First turn was from Hamburg to Zürich. After 1 working week in Zürich and picking up my wife at the airport we continued to Italy, just taking some passes (Grimsel, Simplon) instead of queuing in the traffic jam on the Gotthard way. We had a night over near Varese, visiting a friend, before going further to Liguria.

So far it's a quite joyful ride with the 164.

Only a few issues to note: 1st the ABS control lamp lights up most time. Never had it before. So first I was a bit scared because of "oops, must have something to do with the brake, I guess". But the brakes did still work fine. So no cause to interrupt the run. And the fan of the heating/airco buzzes at high frequency at low speeds (2 to 4 bars in display).

Referring to the buzz of the heating fan: Does any of you know which part it is what I would have to change? Something that's recommanded to visit a scrapyard here in Italy?

I had the interior fan in mine replaced during the 100 Anniversary trip to Italy, as it quit completely - not good with 30 degrees outside...

I cannot recall if there are any threads about it on this board, but alfabb for sure have. You might be able to lubricate some parts, but it is a sign of it deteriorating, however, it might still run for many years - with that sound!

Thank you. Just back home now. The drive was a lot of fun

The car did well on the 3 000km. Only issues were the ABS bulb light and the annoiying fan noise. The 164 is perfect for long distances - particularly equipped with Recaro seats

When my fan had started making some noise, I replaced the fan with a new one for a Saab 9000. These fans are still available and the price is only 1/3 of the original price.

It actually has a bit less power than the original fan, so you run it with 2 or 3 bars more on the display.
